Fines begin January 2026, but will they be enforced?
I text all the time while driving via Apple CarPlay. Other than Siri having trouble with my Southern accent at times, it’s quite easy.

Ok I’m sure all the cops will pull themselves over because they’re just as guilty as any one else.
I was laughing yesterday at a sheriff deputy in the next lane blowing up his phone at a red light. I left at green he stay for a while.

Carve out in the law to exclude law enforcement?

This is a dumb law. No, I'm not in favor of slow drivers in the "fast" lane, but I find it completely asinine that it is illegal to drive in the left lane unless you are going exactly the speed limit. One mile an hour over or under the speed limit is now breaking the law!
Yea it’s wild if enforced literally

They could give 95% of the drivers on the road tickets..
But this title reminds me of some of the arrest videos ive watched over the past several weeks. Its amazing how many people who get arrested, usually for not wanting to ID themselves, want to be allowed to call their mother. Anyway, some of them will yell "Siri call Momma! Siri call Momma!".
My momma would have been the last person I would have wanted to call if I was in the middle of getting arrested.

Agreed, I can’t believe the attorneys would let them pass such a law!
Seems like it could be challenged and beaten easily.

It’s worse than that: it’s also illegal to be in the left lane unless passing. So if there is a single car in the right lane going the speed limit or faster, it’s categorically illegal to drive in the left lane. It’s one of the dumbest laws I’ve ever seen, and that’s an incredibly high bar to get over

Traffic & Driving Regulation Distracted Driving ‘Touch’ Law Starting August 1, hand-held phone use while driving is prohibited. Drivers may only use phones hands-free, and texting, emailing or social media usage—even hands-free—is banned. First violations yield warnings; fines begin January 2026. Slow-Driving Penalties (Left-Lane Blockers) Act 24 lowers threshold to ticket drivers going just 1 mph under the posted speed limit in the left lane. First offense = $150, rising to $250 or $350 for additional offenses within a year. Repeat offenders may face up to 30 days in jail. Aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving highway flow.
None of that is going to get enforced. Both hand-held use and blocking the left lane laws were passed in Alabama at least a year ago and it is still SOP for women and people of certain culture and or color to practice both simultaneously while driving.

So Excel spreadsheets or finishing up a dissertation is fine?

Heard teachers at St Amant High School cater to grooming by calling students by their tranny names. Can’t tell the parents, either. Is this all schools?
