Was watching a BBC program on sharks last night. Forget the name but that was one of them.
Was it called Mud Sharks?

The BBC is hands down the best source for nature documentaries. It has incredible content presented in a meaningful way, narrarated by dulcet tones.
Stark contrast to most American programming that relies on meaningless cliffhanger style designed to keep you sitting through commercial breaks while delivering little in the way of salient content.

I went on an internet search binge after this thread to find out why deep sea creatures are so ugly and have a billion teeth.
Basically they are at a depth so deep and so dark that that there’s no need for colorful displays and scales to impress females as you really can’t see shite.
The sometimes large eyes, weird shaped mouths and billion teeth are because there is so little food down there to eat, that they have to catch and keep, and not let escape whatever they come across. Sometimes that includes fish bigger than themselves. The eyes are huge to try to pick up any bioluminescence or light possible
Pretty fascinating.

Arothron spp. Common name narrow line or Starsa and Stripes puffer
Not deep water but a reef fish.
Pufferfish can be lethal if not served properly. Puffer poisoning usually results from consumption of incorrectly prepared puffer soup, fugu chiri, or occasionally from raw puffer meat, sashimi fugu.

All the down votes on my actual deepwater fishes... Anyways, these were all trawled out of the GOM, just a bit deeper than we run for shrimp ;)

depending on how deep these fish were caught they may not look right at the surface. pressure and whatnot.

Why the colors? It's dark down there. Colors don't matter.

This.
Highly suspect pics.
When you reel up fish from that deep, they have basically exploded by the time they reach the surface. Eyes popped out, guts coming out of mouth and anus. And that's only 150+ feet. You start talking about really deep fish, no way they come up intact like that.
Highly suspect pictures.
