under preliminary recommendations put forward Tuesday by a City Council commission that offered up new names
quote:
The recommendations are the Street Renaming Commission’s initial thoughts on the matter and can be changed before it issues its final report to the City Council. Council members then may make their own adjustments before formally changing any names
quote:
Commissioners initially considered naming Lee Circle for Dorothy Mae Taylor, the City Council member who was instrumental in desegregating Mardi Gras parades. But that plan failed to get enough votes from the commission. A proposal for Jazz Circle or Music Circle also was rejected.

Tulane racist?
There is a rather large entity uptown that might disagree

well seeing as how Destroya's plan has put many businesses to pasture, it won't impact that many on the name changes...
Seriously, doesn't NOLA have enough to worry about than this? Every dime counts and doesn't need to be spent on new signs and crap

Taylor Energy is practically the only thriving business populating Lee Circle other than a fricking Exxon station

So they are renaming all the streets with white people names to streets with black people names?
Is that the gist of this?
As far as Lee Circle, I thought Fats Domino was going to get that. Nothing against Mrs. Chase but I would rather an internationally recognized musician than a lady who made awesome fried chicken.*
*Yes I realize she did more than that but she wasn't on the same level as Fats.

If they are going to rename anything, I can get behind the idea of naming streets after famous musicians from NOLA.
Doctor John Blvd. has a nice ring to it.
