I moved out here about 2 years ago. St.Martin school district is the best(Jackson county) Elementary and high school were rated A and middle school was a B on the line for an A.

Here's a link for the current rankings

Thanks, I hadn't seen that article. I've been using the 2016 US News rankings, which are pretty different. We're currently in a large (5A) school district with lots of course and extracurricular opportunity. I'd like to find a similar place as long as size didn't kill academic performance.

So you accepted a job without doing research? Seems smart..

I've done lots of research. Now I'm looking for first-hand experience from people who live it everyday. But, I appreciate your concern.

If I have to live in Mississippi close to the coast I'm living in Waveland/BSL/The Pass area.

My children are grown so I can't help you with schools. We moved to The Pass from Baton Rouge last year.

We live in Timber Ridge on a bayou that takes us to Bay St. Louis.

We absolutely love it here. A requirement for us was to be on the water.

We also love Bay St. Louis and Long Beach.

My husband's very choosy cousin sent her kids to Catholic elementary school in Gulfport but now they are at Gulfport High. They are in their 3rd house off of Cowan road and all 3 have been beautiful.

If I had children I would probably live in Gulfport or Biloxi because that is where most everything is located.

The Pass is great if you want a slow pace of life and to be on the water.

Good luck!

If you need a realtor, I recommend Carl LaRosa 228-669-4018.

Thanks. I think I've looked at every home online between Pass Christian and Ocean Springs several times. I won't get serious about it until I have to list mine in mid Feb.

Help with relocating to the MS Gulf Coast
What's the story on commuting traffic? I will have to be there in April and my family won't follow until the end of the school year. I thought about commuting from my in-laws in Slidell for those 2 months (50-55 miles). Am I going to hate life?

I'm thinking you'd hate life more if you had to live with your in-laws for 2 months.

One more vote for Ocean Springs.

They just did a realignment of classes - this article may help you. St Martin and ocean springs are 6a schools.

Maybe if it were 15-20 years ago, but they are old now and I'll be out early and back late. If the commute were horrible though, I would consider an apartment or extended stay place closer to work.

Meh, just go ahead and buy and move in to the new house. Establish dominance. (i.e. piss on all on the floor in all of the rooms).

To answer your question, I-10 moves pretty well in both directions you'll be going were you to stay in Slidell.

I grew up in Bay St. Louis, graduated from Stanislaus, and still visit fairly often. The Bay was awesome pre-Katrina, but sucked post-Katrina until recently. It's really making a comeback, and housing is very affordable. A little known, great place to live is Diamondhead, which is on the north side of the Bay just north of I10. You'll have easy access to I10 for work, and you'll still only be about 15 minutes from the beach and Stanislaus.

I would live in Hancock County long before I lived in 95% of South Louisiana.

Had a high school teacher who commuted from Diamondhead to Baton Rouge every day for years. Never understood why she refused to move closer but once I went thru diamondhead a few times for business, I understood. Very nice area out there.

I worked on a long-term project in S MS a few years back. Almost everyone on the project found a way to live in the Diamondhead area before it was over.

No, that's absolutely insane. And there's certainly nothing about Diamondhead that would possibly justify something so crazy.

If you want the best school district, then you need to live in Pass Christian. Pretty small townish/rural, though.

If you want a great mix of recreation and schools, then you'll want to move to Ocean Springs.

St. Martin and D'Iberville are meh. Neither are bad schools, but there is nothing stellar about them.

You really can't go wrong moving anywhere between Pass Christian and Ocean Springs.

Moved here 1.5 years ago. Love it. Always something to do. Great quality of life.
