Good point. Time to take back all the money bands have made in concert tickets over the years.

Wait, you have to pay for your kids to play little league, pay a fee to play the tournament THEN pay to watch them play??

I guess I am lucky my kids take after me, no athletic ability whatsoever.

Because, unlike the OP, you have at least a shred of decency and even a little common sense.
OP also is nagging his neighbor about driving a concrete truck through his yard so OP can pour a driveway on his property.

Douchebag complaining about $8 gate fee can’t afford concrete.

Don’t you know? Travel ball jokes on the OT, even though they’re at least a decade old, NEVER GROW OLD!

So hilarious

The hopes and dreams of your 10 year old kid who really doesn’t understand the concept of fielding the ball yet to be pro caliber by 15 years old is priceless

Depends on the tournament. Having been a travel ball coach and later varsity coach, all the money we earned from parking, concessions, and tournament fee went into the high school program. Dugouts for varsity, Jv, and middle school fields, sprinkler systems, Gator, Toro groomer, batting cages, indoor hitting room, etc. Neither my coaching staff nor me took any money. Unlike football, baseball, and basketball. We gave back to the school.

What did I get for it, nothing. No one appreciated it. Not the district “leadership “ or administration.

I got coaching high school out of my system. It is a thankless job. Over the years I did it, the number of teacher-coaches went down. No connection to the school. Very sad.

You think a daily gate fee is bad for a baseball game, they are charging $10 a head for my daughters dance and cheer competitions. It’s a 3 minute routine and we are done.

Fwiw, I understand they cost money. But I’d rather pay the $30 or whatever per player ahead of time and not pay gate fees. Gate fees to watch my own kid play competitive amateur sports is lame as frick imo. So I agree with the OP. Just include it in the cost to play in the tournament. But I also understand they split that up and likely it all goes to different places.

We have a Volleyball tournament Saturday. It’s $5 admission.

Per game.

It’s a double elimination tournament. Two teams are going to play at least four games. There is a scenario where a team would play five.

My daughters team lost a three way coin toss and ended up having to play an extra game. I hope they lose the first two games and we go home.

Did I mention this was rec league?

75 bucks or so for my son to play football, a thousand and upwards for my daughter to cheer for the football team.

Rec league are becoming unwinnable for smaller towns. It's a rec league not a league for travel ball players. You telling me that your town, your area doesn't have any bad players that want to play ball? Hmmm wonder what happened to those players?

Dixie youth just wants money and they don't care what happens to get it.

coached high school softball for years and our biggest fundraiser was hosting a tournament with 16 Varsity teams and 8 JV teams.

We got to use the softball complex for free because it is owned by the County and the director saw helping schools in the County as a community service.

The gate paid for the umpires, line paint, trophies, and two new softballs for each game.

We ran two concession stands and this is where our profit came from.

The tournament started at 4:30 Friday afternoon and ran until 5 or 6 on Saturday with the Championship game.

We made about 6,000 for the weekend.

This funded our program pretty well and paid for someone other than me to cut the grass on the school’s field.

Ok, now imagine you told the county you wanted to do that EVERY weekend until October. County is gonna say great, but before we get kicked off this weekend, we gonna need about 4k to lease the facilities for the weekend. Errbody is chasing the 2 now every weekend.

I know your meant this to be sarcastic, but it’s actually the truth. You get to see a lot of kids who will never play juco too, but the future of MLB is absolutely there.

OP depends on the facility

but in general for usssa and 2d

- umpires are paid at the plate by the teams
- most fields are turf
- fields are rented by tournament director
- concessions are either run by tournament or run by the local rec department. SPAR in sulphur runs all concessions for tournaments at their parks.

-Gate fee is usually $8 or $10 for everyone over 14. This goes to pay the field rental, cover overhead, rings etc.

What i dont understand is why so many of yall bitch about travel ball. I am a huge rec guy but for any kids worth a damn, its unplayable by freaking 8.

Coaching is horrible, parents of most players look at it as a babysitting gig, trashy arse parents that want their kid to play pitcher even if it is dangerous. Players just not showing up, without parents even telling the coach. H

i was anti travel ball for a long time, but its 100% the way to go if your kid is half decent. Honestly the way things are, atleast around Laffy, LC, Alex etc....you are not making a HS team unless you have been playing travel ball. It is a rarity that a player that played only rec ball makes a HS team, very rare. You just do not see the compitetion level to get better. Honestly unless your kid happens to just be an elite athlete, if you arent playing travel by 12, you are done.

Outside of a few very elite teams, tournament ball is just a 50 game or so season. Nothing different than playing all stars, just 10 weekends from late feb to july 4th and a max of 2 weekends in the fall.

so many poors on the OT bitch about travel ball with their comments about mlb and college scholly. Its laughable that they think that is what it is about. Its about letting your kid do what he loves and becoming good enough to make a HS team.
