Police arrived to the scene in response to a 911 call in which someone called in claiming, someone who matched Sterlings description, pulled a gun on them.
Sterling was breaking probation and when the police attempted to arrest him, he resisted. After they used the stun gun on him, he still didn't go down. When they finally got him to the ground, he was reaching for his pocket, which happened to be the pocket he had a gun in, so the police shot him, before he could get his gun and shot them.
What more is it that this? If people can't accept the truth then frick em. Who cares?
