I didn’t even see a doctor. I saw a PA.

Just how long are they looking at the samples under the microscope?

I was a physician in a clinic, I’d refuse to see Medicaid patients.

Whenever I moved metro areas, my first qualification in looking for a dentist is that they do NOT take Medicaid patients. And that was before my current dentist explained to me how different the business model of the dental offices that are predominantly Medicaid driven actually are.

Labs and radiology are a huge pain in the arse. It’s always some ridiculous charge you get stuck w when you have them in a hospital.

A lot of times its the facility charges that are outragous. Not as much the doctors.

Yup. I've had my fair share of doctor and hospital bills through cancers and transplants and aside from initial consults, which are always higher, the doctor bills averaged $100-$200 allowable charges. You never quite know how they will rule on hospital charges. Sometimes, the hospital bill would get reduced by 75% for allowable charges. Sometimes, it only gets reduced by 10%.

it is rare that I think govt intervention is needed. But this is one.

BCBS pays 237 bucks but tigerfoot is hit for 2k. Oh, and here is a 29% hike in premiums.

It's not just that but people who can pay paying for those on Medicaid where the reimbursement rate is like 70%.

I had a fully sedated colonoscopy/endoscopy with biopsies last year with hospital fees/doctor fees/anesthesiologist fees and it was maybe like $1k out of pocket and the billed cost was maybe a little higher.

They always give the assholes a break because they’re so many of them to explore.

Artificially inflated demand from government programs

How is the health of a populace tied to demand for service in any way but directly? People are going to get sick/injured whether or not there is a medicare/ACA component.

When the cost of a good or service is near zero to the end user, demand explodes. It doesn't matter if it's cookies or urgent care visits for a fever.

Well, I'll disagree that we should treat addressing the health and welfare of people as a either a good or service.

It's immoral to withhold medical treatment in almost every instance, economics be damned.

Wait to pay until you get a statement of benefits from your insurer showing how discounted that $10k is. It'll be something like $980

I guess it's more beneficial for all parties involved to be able to complain about it at election time rather than try and fix it.

Which is why it is often called the Uniparty. They run for office on promises, sometimes put on a show for those promises, nothing changes, then get reelected on running on the same promises while blaming the people on the other side for blocking them.

Government intervention is part of the reason why we are now here.

Your risk rate just went up because you, and anyone else on your plan (talking about coworkers, not family) had the nerve to use their medical insurance and as a result, BCBS was "billed" $$$$$ this past year

So the labor and education of doctors, nurses and PAs has no value?

It doesn't matter what your feelings on it are:

Because there is no incentive for someone not to go to urgent care for a splinter, or a sneeze "just in case."
