WWYD in my situation? all my company asks on the website when you sign up is if your spouse has the ability to have insurance or not. if you say yes it charges the $150 per month, if you say no its $0. i asked around and they dont require any documentation to support you saying no, so would you just put no and save the $150? even though her employer does offer it. how could they bust me?

They've seen this post now. You are screwed.

Yep. It's very real. Don't lie about it because it takes a few minutes to verify and you could get in trouble and possibly lose your job.

As my CPA explained it to me, the Affordable Care Act is a very complicated piece of legislation with severe penalties for employers not covering their employee's. If caught, an employer stands to be fined around $32,000 per employee for non-converage. The IRS now requires that when you file your individual return, you must show proof of insurance through your employer. If you tell the IRS your wife is not covered, then it is a lie and from what I understand, it will not go well for her company or your wife.

Your employer knows where your wife works? My employer has no idea that my wife is a student, and won't know when she starts to actually work either.

Have you read your company's ethics policy?

It's shocking, or maybe not, the number of people that justify lying and stealing.

Thanks Obama.

He has driven up health insurance costs to go through the roof.
By paying the extra $150/ Month , you are just getting that much closer to just saying "frick it, I'll just stay at home and draw unemployment ".

It's easy to justify when your working middle class getting by and feel like your getting screwed once again.

Medicare folks have great insurance and great care. (I know they payed for it but they spend more than they put in). Medicaid folks get adequate healthcare for basically nothing. (I'm not against Medicaid). Welfare folks get benefits for doing nothing. While the Middle class continues to pay higher prices for everything while wages stay stagnant.

I'm not saying it's ok, but it's easy to see why people lie.

My company is self insured and has a spousal surcharge. You better fricking believe that they follow up on it when a big claim comes through.

If you lied about it not only are you getting fired you are getting your final wages garnished for the back amount you owe.

Ignorance isn't a valid excuse either you idiots . Don't gamble your career on 150 bucks

They may not verify it with her actual company, but for our insurance even if we put "no other coverage available" at time of enrollment, we still get a form emailed/sent to us later which has to be returned.

On it, we have to check yes/no for each family member whether insurance is available, and sign (or submit it online) to verify non-coverage elsewhere. It says something to the affect that submission of false answers will result in blah, blah, blah penalty.

My company tests for it in the annual wellness screening. You are also fricking co-workers over for lying about it because your trashy smoking arse will be more expensive to insure and you are spreading that burden out to them since you aren't paying the higher premium.
