Does anyone have to pay this for your employer if your spouse's company offers insurance and they choose to be on yours?

i think its BS and my company is now wanting to charge $150 a month extra to cover your spouse if there employer offers it.

my wifes insurance for her employee is very high so thats not an option.

WWYD in my situation? all my company asks on the website when you sign up is if your spouse has the ability to have insurance or not. if you say yes it charges the $150 per month, if you say no its $0. i asked around and they dont require any documentation to support you saying no, so would you just put no and save the $150? even though her employer does offer it. how could they bust me?

It's a pretty recent development, but pervasive among companies right now. They don't want to cover that extra life.

There is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Just determine if the surcharge plus her premiums at your job cost less than her premiums would at her job.

like i said, what if i just say no and save the money? They dont verify it. What would i be risking? Does the IRS ask when you do taxes?

Yep, my company does the same thing. Why would you even consider lying?

It's a violation of company policy. Not a crime in any sense.

Termination is your only risk.

They are becoming more common even in smaller companies.

Be careful if you lie. There may be small print about the consequences.

If you like your plan you can keep your plane. Average insured will save $2500.

They could definitely confirm if they wanted to.

It's not insurance fraud to put a spouse on your coverage even if available elsewhere, evidenced by them letting you do it if you pay the surcharge.

It's entirely about saving money for the company.

I mean it seems simple enough to just say you thought that meant does your spouse have insurance through her work.

One phone call.
One visit to your wife's employer's website if they have a benefits section on there.
Ask you to sign a legal document affirming that your wife doesn't have available coverage.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I misread it as does your wife have insurance through her job. Completely missed the "ability" part."

It's basically another part of Obama care, since more smaller companies are forced to provide health insurance, bigger company insurers are trying to make your spouse use her own company provider.

Of course, it pays no mind to the spouses plan may be worse or more expensive for the employee. Obama care doesn't give a shite about the employee.

How high has your deductible gone up this year? Deductibles have skyrocketed also thanks to Obama care.

Of course it is.

You are right that it's not insurance fraud. It would likely just lead to termination if an audit is performed or at the very least being billed for the difference in premium.

Hopefully this will be a thing of the past soon, regardless of who wins in November

Lol, Obama really got us with this Obama care shite. I guess I'm well above average but I feel pretty damn average. My deductible went up to $4500 with my company putting $1000 Into a health savings account. My family is healthy but we eat thru that $1000 quickly with prescription charges, colds and flu's, etc. Then I come out of pocket for anything else after that $1000 until I reach $4500. My kid needed an ultrasound the other day, can't wait till I get that bill in the mail. I will come close to that $4500 deductible this year but won't pass it. All this while I'm still paying around $500 a month for my employer family coverage.

Screw Obama and his Obama care and high deductible plans.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful to have insurance in case of something big happes. But, the small shite is adding up to a lot of extra money out of my pocket when my monthly premium went up also.
