Ok, mental health exam. Gotcha.
What other Constituional rights are we to deny based on a mental health exam?
Do you hear yourself?
An exam?
No person should be denied their second amendment rights as granted in the Constitution short of a judication with full due process.

Since statistics are brought up, what about the gun violence stat that shows gun violence steadily dropping to almost half the level they were in the 70's despite Americans owning more guns today?

Just a question. What happens when someone fails a re-certifying exam. Does the government come and take the guns?

Technically they are right. The guns in my safe will not kill anyone unless they are pointed at someone when the trigger is pulled.
I'm all for making it harder for crazy people to obtain guns. The problem is, you can't predict future craziness. Divorce, job loss, etc all come with mental instability.
We can't prevent all gun crime. Hell even Australia has a good chunk of gun crime. But we have to start addressing the mental health issues.
That also starts with trying to give a pill to anyone who's depressed.

The number really isn't what the discussion is about now is it. The main discussion is how to lower illegal gun violence. Why throw the baby out with the bath water? A civil discussion can be had here without knowing the exact number.
implementing increased restrictions on legal gun ownership will do nothing to

lower illegal gun violence
Pull your head out of the sand. Stop pretending you have some higher intellect to be able to discuss these issues. Many posters, myself included, have posted alternatives to restricting citizen access to firearms and yet you ignore those and claim we are too stubborn and claim there is " nothing we can do"
Your interjection is unfounded, inflammatory, and ignorant.

Neither should we be denied our 4th Amendment rights.
But this board seems to have no problem with checkpoints.
It's for the public good, remember?

You are a piece of work. You are exercising your first amendment rights by posting on this board.
Have you submitted yourself for a mental health exam designed by "top people" first?

So what stops illegal gun buying?

When will the USA vs The World comparisons ever stop? Most countries do something's particularly well, while failing miserably at other things. It's easy to make the USA look bad when you keep comparing us against the best that each other country does.

It's not a cross section of the country. It's per capita so it is actually an adjusted number for the entire population of the countries so you DO get a comparable number.
Mexico is ethnically homogenous (like Italy) and has a higher crime rate than the U.S. Your logic doesn't hold up.
I'm saying the entire comparison is asinine regardless of the country picked.
Italy is basically 60 million 100% white Italian people under one government in a space smaller than Texas with a few thousand years to get their shite together.
America is about 300 million broken down like this: white 79.96%, black 12.85%, Asian 4.43%, Amerindian and Alaska native 0.97%, native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander 0.18%, two or more races 1.61% (July 2007 estimate). And we've only been a country for about 250 years. Do you not understand what happens as countries evolve?
That white number for America also includes all Hispanics as well as all other white immigrants from other countries and backgrounds.
Comparing the two countries is stupid. Especially comparing them trying to make a point choosing one single thing with no explanation or discussion about the differing causes and problems with the single statistic chosen.

Wrong.
Chicken has very strict rules on "speech".
And my 1st amendment rights do not cover conversation with regular citizens nor protect me from my boss or the moderators.

So it raised the question how can we control who and how people obtain guns and I think I found the best solution... Stop allowing places like Wal-Mart and Bass Pro Shop to sell firearms and ammo. Build precincts at every police station that are manned 24/7 that can sell weapons and ammo to citizens who have the proper documentation and background check approval. Run thumb prints, retina scans, the whole nine yards. You could essentially kill multiple birds with one stone. Most people don't like going to police stations, especially if they have warrants out. When the station runs a background check, if something comes up, they can be arrested on the spot.

USAF in your handle mean you have some affiliation with the Air Force? You truly are a tPOS...
Posted on 8/27/15 at 4:12 pm to magildachunks
I know what the 1st Amendment means but thanks for the patronizing reminder. You are still exercising it here because you are engaged in political speech in a public forum and can't be held to account by the government for doing so.
