Don’t even know what pickle ball is.

Somehow it doesn't sound as impressive when you see that pickleball participation barely beats yoga.

That said, I am expecting my first pickleball set this Father's Day.

that is simply not accurate

It is entirely accurate. When was the last time you saw a post on the OT, or read an article asking "Have you joined the tennis craze?"

I find that hard to believe. Every weekend there are thousands of kids playing soccer (football) at our park. I don’t think I’ve ever seen thousands of people at the pickleball courts.

I had a relative severely sprain their ankle playing pickleball...my neighbor tore his achilles tendon playing it. These were relatively young, non-fat people...

A lot of people are not buying court shoes and are playing in running shoes. You need lateral stability in pickleball and running shoes are not best for that. I noticed this quickly when I played and got some NB tennis specific shoes.

In our area alone every day there are hundreds playing pickleball morning and night. Just because you don't see it at your park, doesn't mean it isn't happening. Ascension Parish has a huge group that fills Lamar Dixon on Monday and Wednesday mornings and the Gonzales and Duplesis courts in the evenings, in Baton Rouge multiple BREC gyms and YMCA's courts are full.

I think you’re looking at this all wrong. If pickleball gets people active and social who otherwise would just be indoors playing video games I think this is a good thing for people. We live in an unhealthy nation and I think it’s good to see people being active and having fun.

As far as sports go, I’d say look at it as competing against “sports” like adult league softball/kickball leagues and it’s definitely more cardio and hand/eye coordination than those.

Not disagreeing with you, but you can average about 2400 kids on a Saturday and Sunday playing soccer at Pelican Park. Not including the adults who play and the jr high/high school teams.

Takes a long time to cycle 2400 people through the pickleball courts.

bocce

I still have a bocce set my mom gave me 30 years ago. My friends and I used to play the hell out of it. We tore up one of my buddies condos playing it inside. I’ve always wanted to make a bocce court but never really got interest from anyone so didn’t go to the trouble. It’s a really fun game in my opinion.

I just see this as sort of a loser/defeatist attitude. My grandparents played tennis and/or golf well into their 70s, maybe even 80s. Now, we’re supposed to be “happy” for middle age and younger people playing an elderly person/young child’s game. It kind of ties in with Disney adults and adult marvel freaks in my opinion. We’re a nation of fat clowns.

Lift weights, play tennis, go golfing, play basketball, go for a run. Have some dignity.

sure. my beef isn't with the game itself. it's fun. it's the reasons why it's so popular and that it's taking up court space.

Dignity

I go to the gym 5x a week and view pickle ball as a fun way to hang out with friends and get some cardio in. It beats the hell out of running alone.
