Have you ever thrown up just from seeing something gross?

I never have, but it's a trope that's used to indicate extreme disgust- you see it on television, in literature, and even sewed into language with common idioms

"When I saw that basketball guy's shin turn 90° I almost threw up"

"Dude, I almost hurled when I watched '2 tranavestites 1 saw horse."

What's the dealio? Is it really common for people too have a nauseous reaction when they see something gruesome?

One time the family was in Disney World and I had to take one of the kids to the bathroom. We were in Epcot's World Showcase...America Land or whatever. There's a bathroom behind the restaurant. Anyway we walk in and it's like a urinal/single stall. In the toilet was this solid brick of shite. Like literally the size and shape of an actual regular brick. It's lodged in the little chute hole and even though I was flushing, it wouldn't go down. That was the closest I think it ever got to losing it. Here I was thinking we kinda won the lottery by finding a one holer shitter in DW and what was in the toilet kept me from being able to take advantage.

I still genuinely wonder what kind of human could shite that out. How could they pass that - in that shape?!

Not from sight, but I've thrown up from pain. I broke my ankle after coming down on a teammates foot after a jump shot.

Extracted a dead, decaying and bloated rat from a wall once. Barely got it outside and I began to hurl from a deep place within my bowels that I didn't know existed

Smell is easily plausible, and I think contributes more than sight in "gross" situations.

A sight related one that I recall feeling incredibly uncomfortable and queasy is during Saw III. Not sure why, but the scene of the guy with the rings in his body, notably between the bones of his hand, and him ripping them out...I still feel flushed thinking about it.

Similar reaction to the thought/sight of a paper cut. Think Jackass Movie where they use card stock and slide it across the corners of their mouth.

About a week after Katrina hit the Mandeville area, my mom kept smelling something dead in her house. At first we thought a coon might have gotten in the attic and died, but after climbing in the attic, we found nothing. My brother looked underneath the house and spotted a cat that might have drowned when the lake flooded part of the city. Anyway, I had to crawl underneath her house and drag that stinking, bloated thing out. I gagged for 20 minutes after getting it out. Never threw up, because I didn't have anything in the tank.

yes, I saw a dead guy on the side of the road who had been hit several times and his head was busted open and spilling in to the street. Only time I have ever experienced that.

only thing that will make me gag is seeing my son or any kid really with snot streaming out of their nose or doing the snot bubble when they breath. My wife has one of those nose frieda things for my son and I refuse to use it. I think my proudest moment as a dad has been that I have taught him how to blow his nose. Smells get me more than anything, but I will gag but have never thrown up from one.
