It is now a subdivision with private access only to the lake, and the creeks are encased in concrete culverts. All of the surrounding woods were sold off.

They're busy building airports on the south side
Silicon chip factory on the east.
And the big road's pushing through along the valley floor.
Hot machine pouring six lanes at the very least.

They say they gave me compensation
That's not what I'm chasing. I was a rich man before yesterday.
Now all I have left is a broken-down pickup truck.
Looks like my farm is a freeway.

I used to have an amazing waterpark that I went to.

TDcline breaks out in song...

What has happened to this place? I don’t recognize it anymore. It used to be so fun and special. What is life worth living for? The dream is dead, our land is gone; There’s a hole in my heart and I can’t go on.

There are too many minorities (minorities) At my water park (my water park). This was our land, our dream (our dream) and they’ve taken it all away.

They just keep coming and coming (minorities). I tried to go and tell the police, But even the authorities Are minorities At my water park.

There’s no place for me to sit anymore, And the lines just keep getting crazier. There are Mexicans all around me. The lazy river has never been lazier. It’s a 40 minute wait to go down one slide, And the instructions are in Spanish on the Zip Line ride! (Guarden los brazos y piernas dentro del paseo) Just do it in English! There are too many minorities (too many) At my water park (somebody do something).

Where did they all come from? Why can’t they leave this land alone? And it’s such a tragedy (feel a bit like dying). We looked the other way too long. We’ve got to change our priorities And get all these minorities Out of my water park

My wife’s grandmother’s home burned down in a fire in 2010. It’s where she and I met in person for the first time and where she grew up.

Are you an a-hole in every thread you post in, or just the last few I’ve stumbled into?

Now, just imagine how the Native Americans feel.

The Native Americans where I live (many of whom look more Caucasian than Indian) are given thousands upon thousands of dollars every year (enough that they don’t have to work if they don’t want to) because of a casino. I wish I were that lucky.

I do every time you have diarrhea.

Okay okay for real.
1.The two sections of woods in my neighborhood by Village St George.
A. Is now the neighborhood off Siegen called Natchez Trace. This was prime area for trails to ride bikes, rope swings, capture the flag, etc.
B. Is now Plantation Ridge off Highland(just east of Siegen). This was some creepy as frick shite we'd roam around in and explore all the way back to S Englewood and Amiss to the Glass Mansion(see other OT threads). We labeled one area of a fallen tree by a pond the "Dark Crystal" from the movie.

2. One of the houses I lost in the first divorce was one I was really happy about in Tara. VERY good construction and big as frick for my standards.
We closed on it between Katrina and Rita at a steal of a price too.

3. The Borrow Pits where Walmart/Sams/Lowes are at Siegen. This was a paradise for kids in 70s to early 80s. Big Dirt hills for bikes and motorbikes, swimming ponds, fishing, etc.

Our family ranch was taken over by the state (imminent domain) to build a road.

Now it’s a multi acre rainwater retention pond.

Family gatherings. A couple deaths led to the trashier side fighting over everything and tearing the family apart.

I miss getting together with everyone on holidays and watching the drama, arguments, and laughs as well. Now major holidays are only me and my SO.

Yeah my fam used to have a huge Thanksgiving that I loved. Deaths etc have caused it to fizzle out.

I miss the little amusement park at the T in Gulf Shores.

My former in-laws’ home. They’re amazing people, and being around them always felt like a retreat. Like everything was going to be all right.

So the daughter didn't end up being quite as amazing as the folks?

There are places I remember all my life, though some have changed. Some forever, not for better, some have gone, and some remain.

On hwy 190 just south of Covington, Louis Prima Pretty Acres golf course use to be a place I hung out at. I didn't play golf, my best friend worked there and I would go over there and hang out with him when I didn't have anything to do. Walmart Supercenter sits there now.

Mendenhall ice caves, collapsed over the winter. New ones are forming but it's just not the same

You really should post pics of stuff like that. I remember the ice cave in the Portage Glacier from years ago and it was so beautiful. Like stumbling into a strange new world.

My BIL and sis lived in Kenai so I went to live with them. My BIL had weeks off work and made good money so we would wander the state on his weeks off.

He had such a passion and knowledge of everything that he made it even more adventurous because he was naturally curious of so many things.

Alaska was a special place because of him and it still exists and i will visit there again. But it won't be quite the same without my BIL who died a few years ago.

No, but I found out what my special purpose is for.
