Have you ever had suicidal thoughts? Or ever came close to ending it?

I used to think people were cowards that took the easy way out, and never understood how someone could get to that point.
After the past month, I understand how people get those thoughts. I have had a rough six months, but the past month has absolutely destroyed me. I've had alot of bad thoughts, suicidal thoughts, praying to die, and not wanting anything to do with life anymore. It has opened my eyes. I could never go through with it because of my faith, but at least I know I won't criticize anyone anymore. Thank God for friends when I've needed them

Go seek therapy, start exercising, and if you have the time/can afford it, go on some sort of spiritual retreat. That’s what got me out of my lowest of lows. I’ll be praying for you.

Get up and out the house and do the thing you love most. You need to change the scenery for your mind to neutralize

No but last summer I didn't care if I lived or died ... even told my husband and son that was here at the time that. I told them that I had zero intention of harming myself BUT a fatal car accident wouldn't be so bad.

Yes, I sought help .. I'm in a mostly better place now.

I'm thankful that you're bless with good friends who are there for you.

I hate how many of these threads have been popping up on the OT lately. I don't mean this as a criticism of you making this thread, just hate that soooo many people are out there feeling this way.

At least you've put your thoughts down into words and I hope you get something out of this thread which benefits you in some way.

Remember, life is like a road trip. You'll go through storms, some of which will be worse than others, but it will all be worth it in the end. You just have to keep driving. It can't rain all the time.

God Bless you.

Are these external issues? Or is your life relatively the same as it was and you're just having these thoughts anyway?

You should talk to someone.

Yes I have and I’ve gotten help. I won’t say it’s normal but more people experience those thoughts than would admit it.

While you seem to have those thoughts under control you should go seek some help because those thoughts can creep back up on you.

Yeah... just echoing other posts... but it needs to be echoed. Go see a professional.

It’s time.

You will feel better soon with the right help. Don’t be afraid.

Cognitive behavioral therapy and meds really work in cases of chronic depression.

When my depression kicked up again I sent my family around me these 2 videos on depression to explain what to say and not to say to someone with depression.
Everybody likes to tell someone who is depressed to go exercise or just stop being depressed. This videos really helped my family to understand more since they haven’t struggled with depression like I have most of my life. They are short but very helpful.

I’d be apprehensive on encouraging meds to be honest, especially when you don’t know this person. Meds only made things worse for me. I’m not a medical professional, but I’d advise more natural solutions before moving into medication.

See a therapist. They’ll provide options (cognitive and/or medicine) to help your depression and address your suicidal ideation.

Search Psychology Today for one in your area seeing new patients.

If you start having these thoughts again before your appointment call the NAMI hotline. Here’s their info. Suicidal ideation is no joke and if you’re at that point you need some professional help.

Then leave it at that. What didn’t work for you may work for someone else. They should see a medical professional to determine that.

The only way I see myself dying is by suicide. That’s not saying I want to kill myself, I just can’t see myself dying unless I let myself or directly cause it

I guess that’s like next level ego shite or something more than depression

He should definitely do that, I’m just saying that you need meds immediately is dangerous advice.

Yeah but getting on the right kind and also finding the right dosage of antidepressants made it stop. Was critical but made all the difference.

Yes and one's faith and friends are essential. That being said it is important to have someone unemotionally attached to you to help you sort out where your sense of hopelessness is coming from and how to respond. Medicines can be of helps but are more effective when coupled with talking therapies
