The biggest problem with this group is that they are so spoiled that they want the platinum level standard of living but cannot comprehend that communism/socialism would drop them so far down the level of society they are accustomed to that they would realize their misconceptions.
You are dead on here. They live in luxury before adulthood, and expect to instantly step into that level of comfort.
Which is why so many live with their parents still, they dont want to take a lifestyle hit.

I generally thought the same but we recently hired 3 early 20 year olds and I must say we either got lucky or what the OP believes is exaggerated.
They're all in the office full time, dress appropriately, have good work ethic and are respectful.
Good employees and good dudes all around
On the other hand, at my last job our biggest problem employees were our older one's. Full of excuses, had bad attitudes, had no desire to change and were generally poor employees.

I'm not going to be sympathetic when people are acting like their college debts or other debts are a crisis that is causing the fate of the world to hang in the balance.

I don’t know, I’m gen X and pretty lazy

Yes. Every generation after the preceding generation.

Before I realized you were trying to make a joke, I thought you were a confused Tolkien fan.

Same, so part of me thinks this new generation should do the same. But the part of me who now has kids in college realizes how the costs have skyrocketed. We weren’t paying the same outrageous costs for ourselves that our kids have now.

Yes, but you were probably making half of the salary that you are making today. That's how inflation works.

Every study i’ve looked at has college costs growing at over 5 times the rate of wage/salary growth over the past 20-30 years, though. The rate of inflation for these 2 things has been far from equal.

What makes you think it’s young people? We were told we had to come back into the office and we did. They told executives they had to be onsite 100% of the time and our 65 year old executive refused…. Great fricking example for the workers

I work in an industry that involves heavy manual labor, and I’m not buying this fake news. The 45+ year olds are some of the biggest winers and complainers I’ve even known in my life (you’re complaining right now, so I assume you’re one of them). Not to mention lazy and entitled. Majority of the work done is accomplished by the 25-45 year olds and it’s not even close.
Keep spreading the false narrative though, old timer. Save the “well back when I was your age” bs for someone else.
Edit: oh, you work in an office

This is truth, we all want to make the most money for the least amount of work. We want best for us and work life balance.

Now that you mention it, I guess you are right. Even the cost of vocational schools have skyrocketed. There was one course that they were charging over $17,000 for, and it was a 4 1/2 month course.
Gen Z is fricked. Everybody is trying to blame them, but I think it's far from being their fault. What would you expect when they are being indoctrinated by the school system that there is more than two sexes, and homosexuality is normal? And don't get me started on critical race theory. They were blamed for things like slavery before they were even born, and now they are being held responsible, by losing jobs to affirmative action programs.
Gen V had strong unions that protected the rights of the working class and they provided a good retirement and benefits for their members. That is gone because of union busting and sabotage of the unions; and also corporate control of politics. Today, the issues that Gen Z is fighting are: affirmative action/DEI, nepotism/cronyism, jobs going to China, and migrants taking the remaining jobs, and an overall deterioration of working conditions.
Another thing that I have noticed is the (American involved) wars have stopped, which is also having an effect on the economy and the workforce (military industrial complex). Without wars going on, its becoming harder for anyone to join the military, from what I've been told. The standards have been raised. The military was where many kids got their training, and were paid to do it.
Getting politicians to discuss these real issues will be impossible. I wouldn't want to be Gen Z. I can understand their apathy.

Well, you are probably right, but it has to be re-done 5 times, because it was done wrong. (Meaning low quality). I work in industry, and keep seeing this. The old guy might move slower, but he did it right the first time, safely, and he still gets more work done because he can see 5 steps ahead of everybody else, including his supervisors (who got the job through nepotism).
The young guy that got a lot more work done, bypassed every safety rule possible, and got 4 people sent to the hospital. And the job still had to be done over, because it was screwed-up.

Jobs are going overseas. Mexicans are taking the remaining jobs, or they are filled by affirmative action quotas, or nepotism/cronyism. Then, there is no labor union to represent you in the workforce like the boomer's parents had in most of the country. You will probably have no retirement, and the working conditions are guaranteed to get shitter. Things don't look good for gen Z. I wouldn't have motivation either
Rather lame response. The problem is there is a vacuum in the labor force with Boomers retiring the last decade. Many companies are operating at 50% of the skilled labor force needed to fill all of their contracts.
Anyone in a Union is getting under paid.
