Well, I understand that a lot of the “damn rangers” are volunteers…so there’s that…

Not yet but it will. Was supposed to take my son to DC next weekend but looking like I have to cancel that.

Yes, My wife is a federal employee who has been put on furlough until Shummer and the Democrats decideds to end his Govorment shutdown.

It hurts when you have monthly bills that have to be paid and a bill of $ 1000 a month for rent on an apartment that isn't being used until she goes back to work. Our house is 80 miles away from her office in Elmwood.

I know she will get back pay once it is over but that doesn't help with the bills that still come in while she is on furlough.

Maybe don't have a "work" apartment.

They are estimating economic activity based on surveys of business owners all across the country. Business owners routinely take long periods of time to respond to unsolicited government surveys (as I’m sure you can understand… it’s not a fun thing to do).

They put out the advanced estimate based on the surveys returned the fastest, the second estimate based on the next batch of surveys, and the final estimate when they all come in. Each time a new batch is analyzed, it updates the information from the initial release.

Meaning the initial release is never truly “wrong”… it’s just an initial release. As the name clearly indicates. The final releases are made after all the survey results are received.

Explain to me what positions the government deems "essential"? Is it up to the department? Is there a list? I'm curious.

We are traveling through the Canadian Maritimes, due to repatriate on Oct 12. I’ve heard the customs people are still working. Our problem has been trying to get campsites down the East Coast headed back south. All the federal camping is closed, even though it’s mostly staffed by seasonal work campers that aren’t going anywhere because their campsite is part of their pay arrangement. I really do not think they should close them, nothing much has changed as far as staffing.

I do believe that they close the National Park Campgrounds just to make a show of a shutdown.

That plus having a six month emergency fund.

Yes it has because I still have to go to work but not get paid. I feel like this one will last for more than 2 weeks too.

I imagine federal correctional officers and other law enforcement. Security type jobs. I don't have a list though.

It’ll hurt even more when you learn about the miles of dick that have been through that $1000/month work apartment you’re paying for.
