Has technology brought us together or made us more isolated?

I'll go with...its a wash...its allowed us to communicate more with others at times we wouldnt have in the past. But then, its made us not socialize as much because of that. Example being, me asking you fine folks this on an internet board as Im at home as opposed to at a Sunday gathering.

More isolated and it really isn't close, imo.

What I want tô know is why, with all these "advances," do we not have time for anything?

Both at the same time which is a bizarre contradiction that is fricking up the minds of the youth.

We pretend as if loneliness is a new phenomenon. That throughout history there haven't been lonely people who stayed in their rooms and read or led secluded lives.

We're simply able to access or be better aware of lonely people now with technology.

The ability to communicate with people online has given secluded and lonely people an outlet they otherwise wouldn't have had.

Together. When I moved from Baton Rouge and was missing family and friends, I was glad to still have a home connection in the form of TD.

Superficially everyone is closer.

But in reality everyone is farther apart.

You feel simultaneously close to everyone but there's no real closeness.

It causes issues.

Breesus is wise but I say the technology is overall very bad for society as a whole. Video games keep young people indoors vs out doors playing. Facebook is mining your data and has become the sounding board for idiotic political sermons; don’t we all know many people who are 100% addicted to FB? Twitter is an absolute trash heap of idiotic opinions from self important morons. And oh yeah, we all stare at our phones too much...including me.

Are you kidding? It's not even close.

I make my kids leave their phones at home when they go anyplace with me. Otherwise, I'm left with a texting "with me."

To be fair, I'm just as guilty as they are, and that makes me sad. I leave my phone in the car when we go anywhere.

More isolated for sure.

Modern technology in many ways is fantastic but I am old enough to just about remember the pre internet age. Life definitely seemed so much simpler then.

I never play video games and I don’t even have a Facebook account and people look at me like I have two heads.

Made us more connected with more people but it has hurt personal relationships.

Both. It makes it easier to keep in touch with old friends. It makes it easier to cheat on a spouse or significant other though. It also gives idiots a platform that they normally wouldn't have.

Brings together.

With video I meet with distant members of my teeny sect of Adidam.

My sisters and I text during sporting events.

I call relatives.. With messenger we see each other as we speak thousands of miles apart.
