re: Has political correctness peaked?

People don't want to take responsibility for the hate, anger, or insecurities that drive this constantly offended state of being. Personal responsibility is not in style now.
IMO, you being offended by something not intended as offensive is your problem. How much do you have to hate white people/men/whatever group to be so outraged over their completely benign statements?

While I don't believe it has peaked, I think a broad public backlash is beginning to take roots. The original cries for political correctness had relatively widespread support, but giving in on those events has led to an increasing radical sense among the PC-crowd.
Eventually their causes will be so radical that the silent majority in this country will have to take a stand. For years that group has been apathetic to these issues, but I believe that sentiment is starting to change. The PC-crowd believes that if you aren't with us, you're against us, and ultimately that will lead to their downfall IMO.

I didn't say anything like that lol. However I am interested in where PC ends before the 1st amendment is all but abolished. Btw, don't quit your day job for detective work, you'd be fired within a week.

Yes, these stories are always bigger than they should be because both sides explode. Each side legitimizes the other all while they both feel "victimized" in some fashion. Both sides are guilty of hypocrisy and logical fallacies.

Trump as POTUS would do MAJOR damage to the PC/SJW/BLM movements which is just one more reason that anyone who doesn't vote for him is an a-hole.

The real craziness is to come, this ain't even the warmup.
Winner.
At some point, probably sooner rather than later, you are going to start seeing federal hate crime prosecutions over speech. It will proceed to the Supreme Court and since the left is about to have total control over the SCOTUS within 4 years, it will be upheld.
At that point, the state will be prosecuting and jailing those that cross the imaginary lines of political correctness and offense.

Me too.
The reason for my optimism is that even though these recent events have gone in favor of the SJWs, they're gaining more national notoriety. I've got family members who hardly know how to work an email account, yet they're now knowledgeable about the sheer nonsense that is being spouted by SJWs. The more that happens, the more I believe people will wake up, get off their arse, and do something about it.
I sort of think about it like America's involvement in WWII. We were dragging our feet until they brought war to our front door at Pearl Harbor. The same will happen with SJWs, I just pray that it isn't too late when it does.

Oh yeah, the cannibalization will begin. Pretty soon "oppressed" groups will go to battle over who has more privilege and I'm gonna sit back and watch the hilarity ensue.
Let me introduce to intersectionality where "oppressed" groups fight over who is more oppressed.
And the progressive stack wherein the more oppressed you are, the more you get to speak. Gay, black, women tend to dominate this group...though there has been some push from transgender, bisexual, asians as of late.

There is no peak because there is no goal. With each concession, a "new normal" is created and will be attacked.
It's like the Harpies at MADD. They started pushing for lower BAC limits and keep changing their demands with each victory. Proclaiming victory would make them irrelevant. SJWs are the same. Social media has taught us that our importance is directly related to our outrage.

Incidentally, I think outrage culture often goes overboard on both the right and the left.
When people realize it takes a center to make this country work it might start working again. The left doesn't give, the right doesn't listen and we are all fricked.
We have let the fringes on both sides take over.

The best (and worst) byproduct of this will be the desensitization of America to stigmatizing labels. Particularly race-based labels (racist, etc.) but also other linguistic efforts by the most radical segments of society ("rape can become rape weeks after the sexual encounter!").
Of course, in a reasonable society things like racism and rape should be treated with extreme levels of seriousness, and diminishing the power of such labels would be horrible. However, we use these concepts absurdly at present, so some lessening of their power will be beneficial to those wrongly labeled. Unfortunately, it's also a boy who cried wolf situation in that some true victims of racial animus or abuse/rape/etc. will be ignored.

Consequences will never be the same.

It doesn't seem that it has peaked..Every week brings a more insane story than the last. I still can't believe a university president gave in to PC and resigned. That sets a terrible precedent. I think it's all crazy. I hate the direction this country is headed..

According to South Park it's just getting started good again. Lasted 6 years last time, so we have 5.9 years to go.
South Park PC 6 years

I agree. As a Christian and cringed at the protests over the red cups Starbucks is using. Move on.
