Good idea

I offered a salesman a new tv and got a fantastic deal once.

Turns out the guy really wanted a new tv but his wife was against it so when I forced one on him, he had to accept it and his wife had no chance

Tv only cost me $400 vs 45,000 car

"Paying cash" is no longer an incentive for dealerships since they now make the bulk of their money in financing.

NEVER tell them you are paying cash until the deal is finalized.

Do they all go to the same school for lying?

1. We are losing money already at this price
2. It's going to cost us $2,000 to run your trade in through the shop

I've heard that from every single salesman I've ever had

I'm guessing you had to abandon that email account after this?

Way too much work to buy a car. If you know what you're doing there's no need to speak to more than 3 dealerships.

The difference is sending 3 e-mails vs. 30 seems pretty minimal to be honest. It also seems like much less effort than working deals in person or over the phone with 3 different dealerships.

Yes and no. The manager makes the actual deal. They know the real numbers in a car. The salesman is getting you to fall in love twitch the car and sign a crappy deal the manager offers.

I feel like people analyze this car purchase crap way too much.

Probably a bigger deal if you're buying domestic. Can't imaging there being a $5,000 spread among dealers for the cars I buy.

I tried this with a recent purchase thinking that if I paid cash vs finance. They knocked off a little, but they stated it doesn’t really matter to them.

Most every industry does this. They will sacrifice margin today in order to make more on the backend (rebates, incentives, etc.)

I work at a car dealership, financing is better than cash all day everyday. At the end of the day we don’t give a crap where the money comes from.

Negotiations don’t start until you force the manager to come in. Don’t do that back and forth stuff. First time I bought a car after marriage I started telling them I had to check with my wife every time he said I have to check with my manager.

True but hey, if you can do the financing in-house all the thousands in extra interest don't hurt, am I right?

Also, 30 dealerships now have your email address. Talk about a spam nightmare.

You think we give them our real email addresses? We use burner addresses and then never check them again after we're done.
