The gym my son teaches/competes in BJJ has a guy. I am not your guy

They entered 2 pro fighters in an event in NoLa a few months back. 1 did ok, both lost.

I boxed golden glove in Atlanta from 1973-1975....I was 8 - 10 years old. It was a BLAST! We fought 3 - 2 minute rounds and it was mostly just beating the hell out of one another and ending in a draw....but it was fun. There would, at times, be a pretty sizeable crowd...close to 1000 people or so if some of the older fighters were fighting on the same card. Talk about getting amped up...try being 8 years old and a bunch of grown men urging you to kill another 8 year old LOL...never heard them urging the other kid to kill me but looking back they must have been because all of them certainly tried to kill me LOL. The only down side was the coach was a deputy sheriff and at least a couple of times a year he would challenge you to a sparring round or 2 and he was not the type of adult who thought it a good idea to cut a kid a break LOL...I am certain he held back substantially but it did not seem like it at the time...I was more scared of that man than I would have been of a bear....

I can't imagine Boys and Girls Clubs and Golden Gloves boxing is anything like it was in the early 70's...it was kind of big deal in Atlanta and North Georgia back then....to the point that people knew your name if you had any ability at all...I started doing Tae Kwon Do at 10 and lost interest in boxing, not that either was going to last much longer because I discovered girls and alcohol LOL...far more interesting than kicking or getting your arse kicked...

Fighting is one of those things everyone thinks they can do until they get matched up against someone infinitely more skilled and in peak cardio shape. Most average joes couldn't make it one 5 minute round before falling out exhausted.

Very true.

I was generally fit and somewhat athletic when I was young (some cross country, basketball, lifted weights, was a Marine, etc.). At Annapolis, I had to take boxing, wrestling, and judo at various points... Nothing wore me out as much as boxing and wrestling. iirc, we only did 3 one minute rounds for our sessions-- not even a five minute round. But I was exhausted on those days and had to take a big nap after dinner. I tended to be sleep deprived, which was likely a factor, but regardless, a 5 mile run was less tiring to me than 3 minutes in the ring/on the mat.

It's just a different type of conditioning if you're going all out the whole time (and not slacking) and if your muscles haven't developed efficiency at working like that.

That's all the information I can offer. I do know the guy works and when he has a fight coming, all he does is work and train.. I think the guy I went watch him with told me he trains for maybe 2 or 3 month before the fight.

Actually the time we went, the main event was a boxing match. You might want to look into insurance before you even get involved. And I think he got into it because one day at the MMA place he went to asked if anyone would be interested in fighting in a match. I don't know what he gets paid, but I can tell you this, it isn't work the arse whipping I saw him get.

I’m thinking about not training at all and just learning on the fly. I doubt I’ll run into a Chechen

I tried to fight fellow poster Kbeezy once. He said I had to sign a waiver so he didnt get sued.

For those that dont know.....Kbeezy is UFC fighter Kyle Bradley.

I sobered up and decided that I did not need brain damage or dislocated parts.

I remember how sore I would be as a kid after fighting, even if I had won. Only way I am fighting at 45 is over some serious shite.

When I was 22 I signed up for a boxing competition. I had quick hands and could handle myself fairly well in a fight. I did ok for the first two 3minute rounds. By round 3 I was useless (SPENT) and got my face punched in. I was stubborn and kept getting up. Finished round three and never did that stupid shite again.

Never entered anything like that. But there was a tuff man challenge in town one time. That’s back when “Tank” Abbot was famous in the UFC.

A few big ole farm looking baws signed up, amongst others, and they had their goatees trimmed like Abbot.

Some white amateur feather weight boxer from Florida whipped their asses like they were talking shite about his girl. Everytime they would go in to grab the guy he would either land a jab to the gut and then rock them across the head or just blast them with an uppercut. And the other idiots tried the same thing after watching the first guy get beat an inch of his life trying it.

It was awesome. Wish they would have something like that again.

No, an experienced fighter would meet me in the middle of the ring, knock me out cold, then walk back to his corner not needing an after-fight shower.
