ive been trying to convince my daughter that she wants a pet rat instead of these disposable hamsters. She is disgusted by the idea but I think theyre pretty cool. Unless they have that giant sack. I couldnt deal with that

They tend to lock in and attach to one person. He would pester my son (his person) for attention and scratches behind the head, but he'd only put up with my wife and I touching him. He's about 30 years old now living with my ex.

He loved Japanese movies so he'd hang out and wait to answer "Hi."

When we had him for a few months, I was going to work in the morning and stepped out on the side of the loft where our 120 lb. German Shepard and the bird were. The dog always barked when the elevator went by rattling the doors. The old dog was going deaf, the elevator went by ratting the doors but the dog didn't hear it. The bird up on his stepladder looked at the dog, looked at the door, looked at the dog and back at the doors and the said "wolf, wolf." Still makes me laugh.

They are pretty clean actually. Roommate had one. Was super cool, but I personally could never quite get over the tail.

They are very entertaining. My sister has some eclectus (the color of the male and female is incredible) and some amazons.

Best African Grey story was my friends uncle had a long time gf and she took the parrot to the vet. While in the waiting room the parrot started repeating bedroom dirty talk, which was something along the lines of "you nasty slut", she got so embarrassed she left

Saw a kid in Starkvegas Saturday. He had a ring tailed lemur in a diaper on his shoulder.

I had 2 sugar gliders. They were brothers. Hans and Chewy. You could keep them in a pouch or pocket and they would chill. They would climb up to the highest thing in a room and jump/glide to you. When they got tired they would get back in their cage.

They were cool until they hit puberty. Hans killed chewy and then started pissing on everything. We rehomed him.

In 1722, a pet squirrel named Mungo passed away. It was a tragedy: Mungo escaped its confines and met its fate at the teeth of a dog. Benjamin Franklin, friend of the owner, immortalized the squirrel with a tribute.

“Few squirrels were better accomplished, for he had a good education, had traveled far, and seen much of the world.” Franklin wrote, adding, “Thou art fallen by the fangs of wanton, cruel Ranger!”

Mourning a squirrel’s death wasn’t as uncommon as you might think when Franklin wrote Mungo’s eulogy; in the 18th- and 19th centuries, squirrels were fixtures in American homes, especially for children. While colonial Americans kept many types of wild animals as pets, squirrels “were the most popular,” according to Katherine Grier’s Pets in America, being relatively easy to keep.

My cousin had one back when we were youngsters. It was pretty cool. It would sit on your shoulder and fall asleep. It was very tame and friendly.

I had an uncle who had a pet raccoon. It was basically a cat, really.

Sorry about that, you can't tell a hound not to kill and eat them.

I think my pack has wiped out all the neighborhood white rats that got loose.

Other than a dog, the only other pet I owned was a red eared slider (turtle) that my dad caught in a stryofoam cup at our lake house. When he caught him, the shell was about the size of a quarter. By the time we re-released him (maybe 10 years later) it was probably a good 5 inch oval.

Back in the late 60s/early 70s my mom owned a Java sparrow before it became illegal to import them into the US.

I had a ferret when I was a kid. Those things are hilarious and fun to play with, typically docile and cuddly.

I also had a chihuahua mountain king snake for a little bit as a kid, It was pretty chill. Pet store bought it back from me for a good bit more than I paid them for it.
