Dad has had it in the foot, but I know you can get it in your knees, elbows, wrist, etc. Pretty much any joint.

I'm sure it's possible because it's a smallish joint much like the big toe joint where mine normally is. That has to be painful as hell though.

No! And I hope like hell I never do. That shite sucks.

But, yeah, you can get it in most any joint.

He needs to see his PCP and get his acid levels checked, if he is getting there. The doctor got my dad on something called Allopurinol and he hasn't had a single issue since (2yrs).

It can effect any joint. My doc told me of a patient that had it in their neck. I used to get in my big toes and ankles...absolutely sucks and ridiculously painful. I take Allopurinol daily and only one attack in 4 years.

Just a word of caution with Allopurinol, it can cause liver problems in some. I was prescribed it for gout and took it for 2 months. The prescribing physician did not request blood tests to check on the potential side effects. Luckily I had other bloodwork due from an unrelated issue and my liver enzymes were way off. Got off the Allopurinol and they returned to normal. I think it’s an uncommon side effect but worth noting. Have had gout in the wrist, top of the foot, ankles, and knees. Knees are the worst

I have taken allopurinol for over 40 years. if i take my 200 mg a day (bedtime) I can eat whatever I want with no problems.

I do remember the first three attacks very well. Hurt like crap.

When I was about 32 I had it in my index finger of my right hand. I thought it was maybe a sprain at first from lifting heavy dumbbells. It got to the point where even a little fitted sheet touching it was extremely painful. Wife being a nurse figured out it was gout due to my diet that week. I was on vacation and drink beer the entire week, ate anchovy pizza twice, and ate Honduran tamales about three times in that week. All the purines in all of that food and drink caused it. That's why it's called Disease of Kings ! I can't imagine having it in an ankle or foot, has to be terrible.

Any joint is susceptible . Terribly painful. Find the trigger and avoid at all costs.

I’ve got the gout in my middle toe right now. The only relief I can get is to wear a pair of hiking boots. Which keep the joint from moving. I can’t imagine having it in a finger...

Any joint is susceptible. Find out what triggers it and avoid it. Shellfish, cheese, spicy foods are triggers for most people. Alcohol is another trigger. Avoid them and figure out what affects that particular person.

My grandfather used to have bouts with it and he kept cherries on hand to ease the flare ups.

Had my first round with it during Katrina. Apparently hurricane induced drinking, along with cooking all the meat in your deep freezer is not good for those who are susceptible to gout.

I fought it for a few years, until I discussed it with an orthopedic Dr who told me it can cause arthritis in the joints that have crystal deposits.

Had an uncle that had debilitating arthritis...I had him prescribe allopurinol on the spot. Haven't had it since.

I have gout and it primarily affects my big toe and ankle but I have had it in my elbows. It's a type of arthritis so can attack any joint.

Beer

I can still drink beer but not a lot of it over a period of time.
