USAJobs is the only way into a federal job. I applied to get my job at Glacier, and I have an offer to work at Mount Rushmore starting October 30.

Like someone mentioned, it is key to submit your resume as a reflection to the job you are applying for. In other words, if you answer a question that pertains to using a certain power tool, you must say somewhere in your resume that you used that certain power tool.

But I'm also a firm believer that the hiring officials making the job announcements already know who they want. For NPS, they have the same seasonal positions that open up every year. For instance, Glacier has 6 "vacancies" for an Ed Tech (GS-5) job starting in January. I know the hiring official who placed the announcement. I got referred to the job so I went in to let her know that I got referred and to keep an eye out.

Her response was this:
Well, I have 2 people coming back from last winter, which leaves us 4 spots left. But I have 2 preference eligibles (Vets) I have to talk to, but then I got 103 other applicants to look at so good luck.

Needless to say, she already has an eye on certain people.

Prior Military has top priority. So I always thought they got all the jobs there. I know a civilian that applied for an open to civilian position and was actually considered and got the first hit called "referred" There was a number you could call and the lady there told him he had a very good chance. He was at the top blah blah blah....he never got it.

If you're an honorably discharged veteran with a 50% disability rating you should easily be able to find a job.

Wait a minute...

You work for the NPS? I saw they had some openings. How is it to work for them? Must be a dream going into a national park everyday for employment.

As a vet, you will have first preference when us managers select for a position. More than likely you are not submitting the application correctly. They will kick it out for ANYTHING. Also, it does take forever

Yea, I work as a seasonal WG in Glacier. My last day is September 29

It's been a crazy summer tho. Wildfires, early season snow, etc. has made for good entertainment.
