What don’t you understand little buddy?

If owners would charge 10% more than they are charging now they would make 10% more. With the extra money laying around give the waiters the other $2.50 an hour they need to be at minimum wage. You retarded boy?

Should be tipped based on an hourly tip basis and not on the cost of the meal

They work hard and should be paid based on the work, not the cost of the food and drink they move from point A to point B.

So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

The good servers that make good tips(because they bust their arse)...would quit and find another job if they were given an hourly wage. The only servers that wouldn't mind no tips...are the ones that suck at the job. They no longer have to work hard. They can do the bare minimum.

This why socialism never works, it defies human nature, most people believe that if they work harder and are more productive than the average worker then they should be paid more than the average worker, and will seek out opportunities where their work will be rewarded accordingly.

That's not at all how that works. Economic elasticity, read about it.

Add about another $3 to that and you'd be around minimum wage.

Lol. Coming from someone that just posted to factually incorrect statements.

Not necessarily.

I tend to agree, but do you have a way to realistically accomplish this that doesn't end up being worse on the consumer than the current system?

The owner would have to go up more than 10% to pay a server well enough to keep decent help.
Then Joe Bob would lose his fcking mind at how much the food cost and stop going. Then the restaurant ckosed.
See little buddy

If you can't afford to tip 20% then you probably shouldn't be going out to eat.

These threads somehow always bring out the lowlifes. In fact, this topic may be the most efficient litmus test of them all in terms of OT threads. Every lowlife on the forum rushes into these threads to feel validated by the assclowns who brag about being poor tippers. Truly amazing.

HURRRR DURRRR PAY A NORMAL WAGE HURRRRR DURRRR

I don’t have anywhere near a set rate, it might be 30% and it might be 10%. I’m an emotional tipper.
But I have always wanted to start tipping on items served, say $2.00 per item. So I get 5 things they get $10. Why does a server make more if I order a
Steak or a hotdog takes the same amount of effort.

Has 20% become the new standard for tipping?
Because the waiter is tipped on % of what you spend(pre tax).

Don't like the system...don't go out to eat.
I rarely do... and it's a ridiculous system.

Not for me. I have no standard tip. I’ve tipped the price of the meal for fantastic service and anywhere in between that and the 2 cent tip for shitty service I usually leave.

But the waiters don’t get that money. Hence the reason for a tip. Maybe you don’t understand the food industry.

If they are good I tip 25%

If they are awful I tip $.01 to let them know they sucked. Yes, a penny

It’s all in or all out with me.

In Houma its 21%

A rule of thumb is to double the sales tax and that's the tip. Houma has 10.5 sales tax so 21% tip.

It's just easier for me to do a 20% tip in my head. Some restaurants have the suggested tip total for different percentages already, so that helps. Also, I noticed that the suggested tips do not include tax, it is just the subtotal of the meal(s) before tax.
