Looking at taking the wife (no pics) to a concert at Verizon amphitheater in Alpharetta. It will likely be a 3-4 day weekend type thing. We could stay in downtown Atlanta (meh) or I saw these was a Harrah's about an hour and a half away. Anyone stayed here? Is there anything else around there to do? I wanted to play some blackjack but it may not make sense to stay that far away if there's nothing else.

Any other recs for a good place to stay? We've stayed in downtown Atlanta/Buckhead several times and looking for something different. TIA

It's ok... kinda meh. Not worth going out of your way.

Get a cabin in the north GA mountains.

We were there 4 or 5 years ago, we were camping so did not stay at the casino. The only card games are video if I recall, had to pay for every drink/beer. Nice building, looked like they had about half of it closed off. Me and my buddy wound up sitting at the bar drinking 4 dollar beer watching the bar tender, she was at least 5' 10" of smocking arse hot Indian chick(feather not dot) while our women lost lots of money in the slots and drank 8 dollar cocktails.

Cherokee is one of the most depressing places in North Carolina. Nothing like seeing anti-domestic violence billboards aimed at natives.

I've heard there is real card poker/blackjack now, not just the video stuff.

I've never been. If going for gambling, would probably be okay, but wouldn't expect much else when it comes to entertainment unless there is a show booked there. And no free drinks on the casino floor even when gambling.

Drive through there last year. Would not stop. Get a cabin in the mountains like someone said. VBRO has some nice listings this time of year. We like the Nanatahala area.

Bryson City is rather nice and very affordable.

That's enough for me not to go. Screw that. I'll make other plans.

On the cabin idea, any towns or areas to select that will give us somewhat close options for dinner, movie, etc while not being too terrible of a drive to Alpharetta?

Cherokee is a shite hole. The casino is kind of meh. Maggie Valley isn't far away. It's a nice area. I enjoyed a week in a rented cabin there. Very scenic and relaxing.

No alcohol in the casino. Atleast that was the way it was 15 years ago. It also sucked( the casino). Sorry , I don't know about the rooms. We were camping at Jellystone and just went to the casino one evening.

Anything you want to know about NGA, WNC, or ETN I'll be more than happy to point you in the right direction. I can also dole out Bama advice...but the Tennessee Valley isn't exactly a tourist destination.

What time of year. River rafting is great along the Nantahala. And just sitting at the NOC drinking beer all day is on my list of things to do again.

The Nanny is good for a first-timer, but if you really like to raft, there's waaaaay gnarlier shite close by.

NOC's set-up is pretty fricking rad, though. Look at their digs compared to the poor schlubs at Wildwater.

It's okay. The casino has been updated and they have all the standard table games including blackjack and craps. You do have to pay for drinks when playing, which sucks. They also opened a newer Cherokee-River Valley casino near Murphy, NC which is a little closer to Atlanta.

I'd like to go out there alone at midnight and drop some acid. I bet you would see some serious shite there.
