Almost 20 months after the Hard Rock Hotel disaster, its lead developer on Thursday urged the City Council not to "kill a project" by placing new height restrictions on the site, saying he planned to rebuild a similar project to the one that collapsed.

Mohan Kailas and attorneys for 1031 Canal Street Development LLC, the company formed to build the hotel, said a deal with Hard Rock International was still in play and plans were underway to build a new hotel on the recently-cleared property.

The City Council took a dim view of such plans. During the council meeting Thursday, members unanimously voted in favor of rescinding the conditional use permit that allowed the Hard Rock to rise 18 stories. Another vote is required before that change goes into effect, though it isn’t expected to face opposition.

He'll get a second try no problem as long as he knows who to pay off

Why shouldn’t he get a second try? Was it his fault that the professionals he paid failed?

How are they going to be able to stop him? Maybe delay.

Might not get the variance request this time.

No doubt he is continuing to make some largr donations to everyone that matters.

Seems like they’d want to introduce some structural improvements.

Just for kicks, maybe design it with a small exhaust port at the end of a long trench, and if you shoot the exhaust port the whole damn thing explodes.

The hard rock still wants the building or does the franchisee wants the building?
The latter seems like a pipe dream.
Unless a new franchisee wants it.

I think we need to get to the bottom of the dipshit Engineer, Contractor, or both who F'd this up first.

When your building collapses with half of the design load on it something is horribly wrong.
