Seeing traveler's pic of Fat Albert, are JATO tubes still used? Saw the Blue Angels at Belle Chasse (NAS New Orleans) a few times and the JATO tube demonstration was very impressive.
No, they stopped that years ago

One of my first toys. Herk is also legendary for me.

We went to the Air Force armament museum just north of Fort Walton and got to tour an AC-130 with the folks who flew it.
I’ve been interested in that plane since the Jane’s PC games in the 90s.
One of the cooler experiences of my life

Big fan of the Herk. It was the plane I always felt most secure in. I always felt like it was one of those planes that could lose half the plane and still somehow fly. My favorite part of the plane was the little green light by the door.

They’re cute, but it’s no C-17.
Gunship is badass, tho.

Hurlburt Field just re-arranged their a/c museum and the public now has access. It includes a few C-130s.
Haven't been there yet...
Hear the gunships every day digging holes in the range from here in Navarre....

Was my Dad's favorite to fly. He said it could lose two of the four engines and still fly. Going by some of his air force exploits he was probably speaking from experience.

My son-in-law is an AC-130 pilot. He said it is so big that it felt like he was flying a barn the first time he flew it. Badass plane.

Great aircraft...
Having grew up close to Jacksonville AB.. Seeing them in flight in groups at low level was a common occurrence.

The most useful , best-bang-for-your-buck aircraft ever to roll off an assembly line. And almost certainly the first that will see 100 years of active frontline duty. Absolutely awesome that you get paid to fly them.
