I think I’d have to agree, but there’s so many great songs to choose from until after And Justice for All. After that album it seems like they just ran out of ideas.
They didn’t run out of ideas. I think they just made a conscious effort to shift toward the mainstream to make more money. The Black Album is pretty clear evidence of that. Plenty of good songs on that album, but it and the band were just…different.

It is still one of the best albums of its genre

Geauxing to see them in Mexico City in September. Most interested in the crowd.
Lucky SOB. Know someone who saw Iron Maiden in Mexico City and he said it was the best concert he's ever been to. Latin America loves metal.

Another reason why RTL is one of the absolute GOATS was because of Cliff's unbelievable skills...

Before their punk asses turned pop with the black album and later started suing their own fans.

Anyone see them live before? I'd like to check that box off before I croak. Just wondering how they are live
With Guns n Roses at the old Dallas Cowboy stadium, 1993? The and justice for all tour
G&R sucked so bad and that stadium heated up like crazy until the hot air blows up & out the hole in the roof and you feel this ‘whoosh’
Creeping Death is maybe the best KH solo of all

Armed Forces Radio played the heck out of Metallica during Desert Storm.

Saw them on the Sanitarium tour. Yes, it wasn’t their prime, but incredible show.

then in 2004
The one at NOLA Arena with Godsmack as the opener? That was actually my first concert.

Same tour, but in Houston.
Load tour in Lafayette was my favorite because we had floor tickets. Newsted was close enough to touch, but I didn't see a reason to. Stunts were fun. Lollapalooza was fun but I was so exhausted by the time they came on.

It seems to be North American concerts that have the least crowd engagement. I mean, look at any concert video from River Plate. I flew to see Iron Maiden in Barcelona last year, and the crowd was awesome. Iron Maiden was great as usual, but it's an entirely different vibe than at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the Woodlands, lol.

One of the greatest albums of all time

Are cell phones a factor in that difference?

So wrong. The band wanted to explore their creativity and expand their repertoire. I’m so grateful they didn’t end up like so many other successful bands and keep releasing the same album over and over again. One of my favorite things about Metallica is the variety in their catalog. I could put them on shuffle and keep getting something different.
They always made music that they wanted to hear but weren’t getting anywhere else. They took some risks along the way. “Selling out” would be continuing to make the same style of music that made them rich in the first place.
It blows my mind that nobody has a problem with AC DC making a career out of simpler, more radio friendly hard rock/metal songs but Metallica goes that way 1 time and metal elitists start crying. It just goes with the territory when your dealing with metal fans.

That’s pretty much what I said. I included the terms “mainstream” and “money,” and you jump to the conclusion that I’m calling them sellouts.

Best Metallica album, meet me at Sonic if you disagree.
Between that or Master of Puppets. It's a toss up.

I'll be seeing their old asses in a couple of weeks. Better late than never.
I saw them in 91 right before they toured with G&R. No openers, just Metallica for 3+ hours. It still ranks as one of my favorite concerts
