Yes, Toto’s was across Breard from Twin City Glass and across Louisville from Howard Bros.
And as seems to be required, eventually became a daquari shop.....

Probably not. That was a few years before my time. I was class of '90. However my grandmother, her brother, and her sister all went to Neville about that time frame. I think my grandmother graduated before the war and her brother graduated a few years later and joined the Marines to go spend some quality time in the South Pacific. Ask him if he knew any McDuffies.

Everyone knows a McDuffie or more!!
I sent his yearbooks home with my daughter this morning or I'd go look for them. Dad graduated, joined the Marines and is a Korean War veteran.
ETA- dad says that his first cousin graduated from Neville and was a Marine that served in WWII, was wounded in the Pacific theater

Damn near lost his hand in that frozen tundra, which ended a very promising boxing career but since he couldn't fight, he coached. Buck ended up being one of the best boxing coaches to come out of Louisiana.

Yup .. when I said McDuffie, first name he said was Buck. Back when men where men and admired for it. Just saying.
ETA- Dad also just said he remembers Buck having a boxing club. We were watching History channel last week and they were showing the horrible frozen wasteland they were in. Heartbreaking.

You lived in the T&C and i assume your my age based on your user name.
I lived in the townhomes by Johnny's in 2nd grade. We moved away then back when I was in 4th grade. Then we moved again at the end of 6th grade and that was it for my Monroe education.

Obviously has nothing to do with this thread but honestly Korean vets don't get near enough credit they are due. I know WW2 vets will forever be known as our greatest generation and rightfully so. Vietnam vets while treated horribly back during the war are finally getting the dignity they deserve with our pro-military culture these days, but Korean guys almost seem like they have been forgotten and that war in theatre was brutal to be in. Much respect for your dad for making it back home.

Did any Ouachita guys play in the 1975 Optimist Toy Bowl against Farmerville? I was a Fighting Farmer that night. Somewhere, I have a picture of myself and Coach Robert Charles Payne on the sideline. Will post if I can find it.

16 was nothing compared to 91.
91 was unreal.

They closed high schools in Bernice, Downsville, Marion, all of the public high schools in the parish, except F'ville. Union Parish, Union Christian Academy, Downsville Charter School and D'Arbonne Woods Charter School (Farmerville) are the only high schools in the parish.

Springhill now has North Webster. Winnsboro has Franklin Parish high.

I was in BR getting flooded for 16, but I was up there for 91. Some college roommates and I went around Little Cuba on blow-up rafts.
91 caused a LOT of changes in that area to limit flooding, it very likely helped lessen the impact of 16 as it was so bad that the Ouachita flowed backwards.

We used to go by the old Logtown school around Halloween. We thought we were badasses until we went into a dark classroom and something moved. It was like the scene in Porky's where all the kids get scared out of the house (except we were all dressed

I have to say I scared the everliving shite out of multiple friends I brought to Monroe with that one.
I mean white faced losing their minds.
CAD! Just keep driving CAD!
It's all in the setup. You gotta start talking the story up several days before the drive by and the eventual payoff is worth it.

Interesting. I feel like I remember hearing about it in a couple of my met classes but nothing in depth

ROFL!!! I haven't thought about that in years. I'm allegedly a "really good storyteller", I used that story to set up quite a few friends (and dates
