Have you been to North Dakota? I hear the people are really happy there.

There are people in this forum who will fight you over it.

Who would have thought: having money and being able to afford homes in quaint California beach towns makes you happier. Mindblowing.

Is it the city that makes people happy or is it the type of people that move to the city.

The only thing behind this is whatever random metric they use. This was the one used here:
quote:

Each city was evaluated across 29 key indicators of happiness, including depression rates, income growth, and average daily leisure time.

So 29 indicators, but they will only tell you 3 of them in the article. You have to click a couple of links to find the methodology. It includes stuff like this:

quote:

Adequate-Sleep Rate
Sports-Participation Rate
Commute Time
Median Credit Score
Volunteer Rate
Ideal Weather

Seattle proves this is not legit. They weather alone, plus add in darkness creates issues for happiness

Looks more like a list of cities with the most mental illness. Maybe being crazy is bliss.

WRONG!

I have worked outside in the Arizona desert when it was 118°F in the shade.

I have been in Needles, CA when it was 123°F

NOTHING is worse than below 0°F temps.

Literally every day I think to myself that I can't believe I live there, especially on days I am traveling elsewhere for work. It's an awesome place to live.

I love it when I hear people here in the south say that they like cold weather, my usual follow-up question is "what is the coldest temperature you have experienced." They'll bring up a February freeze when the temps got down into the high teens. I'll tell them, there are days where it wouldn't even get above 0 and A LOT OF days where the high temp is in the single digits.

I think people should experience a few days of those temps to get some perspective.

Totally fine with it, too high of a ranking will open a floodgate of yankee invaders.
