When I was at Southeastern, back in the 80’s, Hammond was even backwards arse back then, but it looks like it’s gotten worse…

Is this a motion for no NEW licenses or can none be renewed and issued at all?
I read it as no new licenses, but I wonder if renewals get lumped into that because they are getting a new license even if its not "new".
I tried reading the minutes linked, but it doesnt say much, just has a list of businesses.

A shite ton of restaurants, bars, and some stores would close in the first year if this law really goes into affect.

The way I'm reading it its the rules of the voting - five council members, three had to obstain from voting because they own bars/liquor stores leaving only two yes votes and three are required to pass.
The problem is the rules and who is on the council.

Read the agenda and watched the video.
It appears that the motion was an annual renewal for all current liquor licenses. It did not carry.
If I understand it correctly, this would mean that unless they remote, noone in Hammond would be able to legally sell alcohol starting Jan 1.

I suppose the people I work for can stop looking for a spot to build in Hammond

thats literally his reason
If you ask any Louisiana boomer why they vote for a particular local politician, the most common response is "I know dey momma and dem good people."
Louisiana's problems are self inflicted.

Hammond should be focusing all their attention on preventing crime. It's still a safe place, relative to many other places in LA, but there are signs of change.

Not inaccurate. My mother and her friends vote for high school friend that would never do anything corrupt...

Renewals are separate. Once you have one it's for life unless it's taken away for the most part on a local level. That's why the same bar owners keep opening the same bar up, they don't want to lose that license.
Hammond had a ban on new licenses several years ago so that's why I'm asking, that's been a thing for decades for them.
If it's enforcement and killing ALL curent licenses, Hammond is fricked.

could be the local bar owner "PAC" trying to stave off competition?

Blvd. Lounge and Grill, Salty Joe's BBQ Shop, and Blackened Brew just outside the City limits is about to make bank.

And there it is. Keep the competition to a minimum. Like someone said one of the council folk owns a bar.
