I can understand being a little happy about paying less at the pump(I too get a tiny happy now when I see I can fill up my Jeep for less than $25). But I do not understand celebrating other people losing their jobs. Enjoy the cheap gas, but at least have an ounce of compassion for your fellow man.
Have you ever thought of higher oil prices being similar to higher taxes and redistribution of wealth? You pay slightly more at the pump (higher taxes), thereby partially helping someone have a job/earn more (redistribution of wealth). Obviously they're actually working, unlike the leaches of society today.
How far off/crazy am I here? I may just be delirious trying to get through work on 2 hours of sleep.

Yeah, it's funny until you realize all this surplus labor isn't really good for your average working stiff.
But then again OT ballers are the captains of industry.

People love to revel in other people's misery.

it's ok, I think I'm fine and have already reached out to recruiters. no time to waste now.
just hoping I've saved enough to survive a prolonged unemployment stage.
I guess it's not real until it happens to you or the people closest to.
no sympathies here though, I don't want it.

Sorry, I never knew. I thought it was another supply constrained field that led to exorbitant wages.
I'm guessing you don't have the slightest idea of what skills it takes to accomplish their job. You overplay your hand on here constantly. You'd have to be in expert in many different fields for you to not be totally full of shite. Like I said, you're a blatantly obvious troll. You need to pick one area of "expertise" and stick with it if you want to get more bites.
ETA: And no, I don't pilot river boats before you make that obvious post.

but I did lose my job via layoff today.
sorry, individually I understand what it's like.
As much as I talk shite, I'm in plant work myself. We lost the contract to a site in Plaquemine last summer, there were 4 of us at that location and I was the only one who they kept. One dude just had his first baby 2 weeks before. They did it on a Monday morning, "Go home, we'll call you if we need you to come back"
fricked with me alot. sorry man, but good can come from it, I got called by two other companies that I submitted resumes to that Monday afternoon, and then got my employer(who kept me) to match their offers.($5 more/hour)
Embrace this feeling you have now, and use it to understand what you have to do.

yeah right now I'm struggling to see the good in it, all I can picture is the stack of bills that I look at monthly.
It happened at 1030am, but my boss called me into her office at 1015 to warn me of what was about to happen. I had a meeting from 9-10, so I had just gotten back and was about to summarize the meeting with notes. guess I don't have to worry about that anymore

You're way off base. They hire these guys because they are needed to do the work. They have that much work, because you are willing to pay $3 at the pump (when it's that high). The only way to get enough skilled labor off the couch to do it..... those salaries are needed. See how supply and demand works. Jeebus it's like talking to 4 year Olds.
We aren't jacking up gas prices to provide welfare to workers. I mean that's laughable. Big bad "evil" Halliburton is playing Robin hood and redistributing wealth

the hardest part was telling my wife.
Yep. I had that conversation, and it was difficult for sure. Keep your chin up, and start looking. Best of luck.
For me, the next job I found, which I'm still in, has been better than my old job, and my friends that are still there are somewhat miserable.

I've been at a Halliburton facility all week. It was a very bad day there when they received the email notifying them of the upcoming layoffs. To those talking heads on here celebrating these events I'm free all weekend and willing to drive a couple of hours to kick your face in. Good family men out there about to lose their jobs and join many more. The only damn reason that I'm still employed is because I'm 1099 and they owe me nothing if I'm not working. That being said, it's hard to look at my 1&3 yr old knowing that I can get the hammer any day. Positive is that most of those being laid off are good men and will make something happen to make ends meet. Not many that will crawl to an unemployment line and just give up. They're hard working Americans and know how to make due until our industry come back. Good luck
