No. The drugs are IN the hair, not ON it. Drugs are actually incorporated into the hair shaft from the bloodstream. Severe chemical washing and bleaching removes drugs on the hair, and may, in some cases, lower the level in the hair slightly, but it will not remove the drug completely. As a matter of fact, before we do our confirmatory testing, we wash the hair and test the washes to make sure all the drug is off the outside of the hair before we continue, so that we are assured that any drug we find is from within the hair. Hair coloring has no effect on the testing.
Bleaching works by destroying double bonds on carbon compounds in the hair. If it only worked on the surface, bleaching would be impossible because melanin, the protein that colors hair, is in the core of the follicle.

Exactly. OP doesn't get that we all think he's an idiot for smoking when applying for a job, not because he smokes. I'd think he's just as dumb if he shows up to the interview drunk.
I haven't smoked in awhile, but hair tests go back months and are extremely sensitive. I prepared for a urinalysis and was surprised to find out it was a hair test.

Funny, but no. I've had no support from my parents for 16yrs. I've been on my own since my senior year of high school. My parents have no connections.

how do you prepare for a piss test and yet have all these questions about a hair test?
was your preparation just to drink a ton of water the day before and day of said test?

its pretty sad a 34 year old has to resort to coloring his hair so that he can pass a drug test.

I've taken a number of these hair tests for the oil and gas industry. They are looking for the 1.5 inches closest to the scalp, but not the roots. Your hair apparently grows 0.5 inches each month, so they are attempting to look back on your last 90 days.
It also has a lot to do with body fat %, and the thickness of your hair. As a skinny white dude with thin hair, the chemicals have a lesser chance to enter my hair. I think. You can also go to a clinic and submit a John Doe sample and pay about $100. This will take 1-2 weeks to get back though.
If you took a few drags over Christmas and are worried, I wouldn't do that whole bleach and redye deal. You're gonna burn the shite out of your scalp, smell like bleach, and feel like a dope. At any rate, good luck.

Those are all irrelevant points. The only thing that matters in this case is this: you are applying for a job that has a certain policy, and you violated that policy. Now you have to face the music. Period.

If you've been a heavy smoker in the past 3 months, you're fricked. If you smoked lightly, you're good. If you smoked a moderate amount, dying your hair and using special shampoo might work.

Tell them you were on Bourbon Street and a hippie blew a cloud of weed smoke in your face

I was once a habitual smoker. That was during college. I knew I would be getting tested to go to work so I stopped smoking pot and got my shite together. I am disappointed that stoners are falsifying drug tests to work where I do. Too much energy at a plant to be walking around with a clouded mind.

Your obviously going into an industrial world. Hair follicles are pretty regular for working or going in and out of industrial facilities. If you pop. Your black balled in DISA.

I didn't have time to post this earlier, but I had to take a hair sample drug test a few yearsback for a company that I interviewed with.
First, the people collecting the hair sample are not a bunch of dummies. If they suspect you are colloring your hair to avoid detectionn, they will try to get a sample from elsewhere on your body. When I was at orientation for the company, there was a dude that was completely bald/ clean shaven, I think they took a sample from him from his underarm hair.
Second, you may be thinking that you can shave off all your hair. If you do, they will ask you for a leeter from doctor stating that you have a medical condition that makes you completely hairless. No letter, they put it down as a failure.
And this company does randiom hair samples. So you can be approached while on the job and have to give a sample anytime in the future.
And this company has operations in Colorado, where it's legat now, they put out a memo saying that marijauna use is still against company policy even if you reside in a state where it is legal.
