Because our justice system is shite. By the time the cops catch up with these guys the jewelry and cash will be long washed away. They bond out, skip trial, and stay out for a while until some traffic cop finally lucks into catching them on warrants. Bond out again, rinse, repeat. Maybe a judge will revoke bond at one point and eventually they go to trial. Trial gets drug out with date resets. Homeboy is years older now and can plea out as a "rehabbed" citizen because he did a 6 week anger management class. Worst case scenario he does a few years with concurrent sentencing and early parole.
