Roughly, yes. Depends on the options the family selects. It can get expensive very quickly, like obits in certain newspapers range from $200-1000. It all adds up very quickly.

So now we likely have a kind hearted person who will be 8 grand in credit card debt (assuming she doesn't have that kind of cash) and the dope addict we were worrying about having too much leftover funeral money is now going to have all 20k + of it to do as he wishes.

I think we should start a GFM for KentuckyGirl.

average cost is roughly $9k which doesn't count plot. If you have insurance they just take it from that, when it's paid out. A regular funeral with visitation, memorial, etc will run closer to 15k.

So now she is completely reliant on gofundme to actually release the funds to Commander and on Commander to pay her back. And he won't get the funds until after his wife is buried.

All this seems like a “family issue”. And has no business being brought here.

Honestly this situation has become even worse with the biggest victim now likely added to the list. KentuckyGirl (Carri's aunt by marriage) has now put somewhere in the range of 6-8 grand on her credit card to let the funeral proceed. I believe her because within an hour of her posting that she had paid for it, the obituary went live online.

I mostly believe her as well, but it also doesn't cost me anything to believe her unless I plan to give her money. At this point, I have no intention of giving money to anyone. I have a trust but verify mindset in life and if you screw me once, it will take quite a bit to gain back the trust part.

The old CD seemed like an intelligent guy who I had a lot in common with and could share a beer with. I'm sure his online persona was somewhat exaggerated just like most people. I also think most people here who gave money, gave it to the old CD. I don't profess to know WTH has happened since then and I'm not even going to speculate. It will work itself out in the end.

Ideally, a coherent CD shows back up here, explains what happened, repays the aunt for the funeral and throws the kids the best Christmas they could possibly have considering the circumstances. I admit the likelihood of this happening right now is fairly low.

It is.

Normally I would agree, but 3 different members of this family have been making dozens of posts on here the last two days with personal details about their family. I'm only referencing what KentuckyGirl has already said.

Funerals, even basic ones, are hella expensive. $8000 sounds just about right for something in that range.

Baw paw and Garcia roofing strongly disagree with this sentiment. The best O-T threads are family issues.

Sadly, this lady lost her life far too young.

Another tragedy is people actually live like this in America and think it is normal. No money, no credit and no education. Society really is a cesspool. I read one time that something like close to 80% of the U.S population couldn't cover a 300$ emergency right now... I believe it now. Man just sad for society.

I donated $20, hopefully it goes to the kids. Not hopeful in the slightest that it will.

The nerve of someone to go on a site and blast people that donated over $20k to help and demand that they apologize. Instead of “thank you all so much, I understand your concerns”.

Just horrible, it’s crazy that people out there like that exist.

I have 4 acres behind my house, and included in that is a hole where we can throw old shite we longer use or tree limbs and debris after a hurricane to burn. I told my wife that’s how I wanna go out, with the boxes and wrapping from Christmas and maybe an old microwave.

Save a lot of money too.

Yes she related to me that she did indeed use her cc and that if she has to pay $50 per month it’ll be worth it to see her niece laid to rest and to help the nieces mother (KG sister in law I guess) get some peace.

She also said that she feels she’ll be paid back — I certainly hope so.

That is good that she at least understands the risk involved. Assuming she paid all 8 grand on her card, that $50/month payment she is assuming is likely more like around $320 a month for the next 14 years though. And that is just making minimum payments.
