Don’t forget to contact gap insurance too. That way he won’t still be owing the finance company.

I doubt that.

I have the same truck with only 60k miles and I think it’s worth around 25/27.

oh yeah, went to the ER for a CT scan to be safe, neck’s a little stiff but otherwise fine

ironically that car had 102k miles on it and needed a couple of grand worth of front end work so we were thinking about replacing it soon anyway

our timeline just got accelerated

They are usually going to give him KBB on the truck.

Just ran the KBB on a 2017 Z71 LT, crew cab with standard options, white in color with 140k miles. Private party sales (higher than trade in value) was between 13,500-17,500.

I can't stand insurance companies, but they can only give you what your vehicle is worth. Not their fault he owes that much on a 8 year old vehicle.

You're a lucky man.

Cars are a dime a dozen, but wives are blessing.

I think the OP said he didn't have it.

He can provide the insurance company with comps he has researched himself. Usually, they will take that into consideration. If not, then the insurance company could be negotiating in bad faith.

Start there. Usually, the initial low ball offer is based on a trim package that is at the low end of the price point.

Good advice.

I've done that a few times for folks.

Get their offer, and then ask them to add sales tax. They usually do it, but you have to ask.

In OP's case that's another grand or so.

The high miles is killing the value, so 14K is fair.

Go to Kelly blue book and see what they value the car as. If it's 24k then use that as leverage to negotiate the value of the car.

1. Don’t trust the adjuster. Don’t be boxed in with Kelly and NADA. Use Edmunds et al.
2. Regional valuations in my opinion have no relevance. EBay Motors, Carvana, private online sales, the internet makes North America the market place.
3. Profile the vehicle and acknowledge the legitimate depreciations. Also where applicable add value for improvements.
-Shop the vehicle’s value online. Do a spreadsheet. Large samples are your friends.
-Kick out the ridiculously high and low values.
-Average the remainder.
-Submit that value to the adjuster and hold fast. Share the spreadsheet and the list of vehicles for sale used to generate it.
-The vehicle is worth way more than the insurer is offering.

I revised my take after reading your post and stand corrected.

I checked his description again and did a quick crunch. His $23,000 value is based on vehicles with sub 100,000 miles. Like 60-80K. He’s at 140,000.

Not sure how clean his was, but their adjuster is only about $2000-2500 low at the outside.

I’d still fight them to the death for it. I always have.
