Huh. Its funny. I just read Baa Baa Black Sheep, and when Pappy Boyington was in captivity in Japan, he talked about a prison guard that was obsessed with cowboys and westerns. So they been into that shite since atleast the 40's.

I played in a bluegrass band in Munich for awhile; every Thur. night we played at either the Oklahoma Bar or the Rattlesnake Saloon. The crowd was all gussied up in their cowboy duds. Looked just like home. There was a model train track set up on the wall that brought tequila shots to the band.
We found a hole in the wall blues bar in Bangkok we've visited through the years. When you close your eyes you would think some black dude was singing. They had some top players in there.
If you're in Kaohsiung City in Taiwan, stop by the Arkansas Diner. Run by a guy from Paragould, Ark. and his wife. Disclaimer: I learned that here on TD.

There is actually a Tennessee Vol themed bar in Japan too. The owner went to UTK and fell in love with the Vols while he was here.

When I was stationed in Japan there was a bar in the alley that had a murial of one of Marshall Tuckers first album behind the bar and along the walls throughout. Pretty cool.

They are doing Texas as they know best. Some people out there think somehow Texans should be mad because "culture appropriation", what a crock of shite. Are they getting it 100% right, no. Are there obvious stereotypes, yes, but still it's awesome to see.
For what it's worth, plenty of Japanese love King of the Hill and view it as America's best anime.
