I agree on the shotgun for home defense. 12 gauge with 00 buckshot is like getting hit with nine 9mm rounds at once. Ouch!
To answer OP, not necessary. Keep them both loaded with ammo. Never know how many thugs you'll have to take out. Blast away!

Buy about 10 more mags, then go shoot every chance you get.

Yea, definitely will be hitting up the range a lot.

I apologize. Still learning the terminology.
It happens. You've got to learn somewhere.
Like others have said, no need to rotate mags.

Typically a single quality 9mm round will have far greater potential than a single 00 buck pellet since the shot will be about 2/3 to 1/2 the weight of the 9mm bullet, unrifled, and exiting the barrel (using a typical "home defense" barrel length with typical commercial "home defense" buckshot loads) at a much lower velocity.

Like others have said, no need to worry about your springs.
Also, shoot, shoot, and shoot some more. Get familiar with the gun so when you do need it, it will be second nature to use it correctly.

The service life of a loaded magazine is ten years. About $2.50 a year is pretty cheap. Keep them loaded.

Springs lose their "springyness" over time due to compacting and expanding. If your magazine is loaded all the way, it is better for it to stay compressed for years vs unloading it routinely

Good.

How often do you rotate
Every time I practice at the range. If you really bought it for that reason, your range time should make the second quote a non issue.
Happy shooting.

H&K is a pretty good gun for a novice (assuming you are a novice). Springs will be fine. Research ammo if its for home defense. Some rounds are made to penetrate further (dangerous in close quarters), some are made to barely go through dry wall (but dont have great reviews or stopping power). Biggest thing is practicing and being comfortable with a gun. Outdoor Board is a better place where you cam find tons of threads on this type of stuff.

Whoever told you this was probably fricking with you lol. I keep my mags all loaded all the time. Even if the spring wears out in 4-5 years just go buy another mag. They aren't that expensive.

I got an 9mm HK with hollow point rounds. If you want the manufacturer I would have to go look.

They're made in Sterling, VA. Right on the backside of Dulles.
I had a tour, nice place.

Dude, call it a clip if you want. You don't want to become one of those anal "you don't know shite about guns because it's a magazine not a clip" people. They're the worst.
You don't need to rotate them. They're pretty cheap and if you're concerned just buy two new ones every year and mark the old ones for practice only or sell them on eBay.

I've shot 1911s that have been loaded in storage since WW2. They fed just fine.
Just compression doesmt wear put a spring.

If you are worried about the "clip" spring, trade it in for a revolver.
Pro Tip on the revolver: heavy is good, sign of reliability, plus if it doesn't work you can always hit them with it.
