I keep all six of mine filled. The springs are too damn tight as it is.

OP:
Something you may consider is a light for that pistol. If it's a newer HK it will have a picatinny rail in front of the trigger guard...look into streamlight TLR series.
If it's a USP you have to either get an adapter or use the crappy insight technologies light.
Thanks! It does have that rail and I will look into that.

Meh. I'm 99.9% sure and the one poster on this board who did have a weapon in his home during a home evasion couldn't get to it in time. Let's face it, the likelihood of defending your home with a gun during a home evasion is slim to none, mainly because home evasions happen when the victim isn't around and if the victim is around there isn't enough time to defend yourself with your little handgun locked in your safe or tucked under your mattress.
Also, you need to reevaluate where you're living if you're worried about getting "got".
Given that a firearm is relatively inexpensive, I would rather have the option available even if the chance of success is small.
Regarding the last statement, violent crime is not limited to the hood, you don't have to look very hard to find instances of home invasion, armed robbery, rape, etc. occurring even in gated neighborhoods with multi-million dollar homes.

Maybe we should ask Cork if he would have liked to have a home defense pistol on him?
I hate to bump a thread so old but I joxied my name - it's all about CorkSoaker nowadays anyway - but the first thing I did in my situation was run for the pistol; too bad it was locked in a safe. Had I had the time, I would have killed all five of the frickers; no questions asked, let God sort em out.
If you were to walk into my house today, I can promise you things would go quite a bit differently. I don't leave my house without my pistol, to the point where my girlfriend's friends have "banned" me from their house for refusing to not bring my pistol. That's their choice, it's their home, but I don't go ANYWHERE without it; especially with all the nonsense going on lately.
It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it - plain and simple.
ETA: Didn't read this thread, but if you think your dog will protect you, you're a fricking idiot.

What? They asked, I answered.
Or is it "good grief" that I carry my pistol everywhere? Let me put four .40 cal rounds in you and you can tell me about being overzealous.

Congrats on wasting your money. No one in this thread has ever fired a weapon in the name of "home defense". Should've just got an AR and took up hunting.
How about I spend my money ever how I wish and you don't worry about it.
I have not fired in self defense but I have come close and pulled my gun on a guy. He got the hell out of there with a quickness.
And to the other stupid comment you made about moving. I live in an extremely nice neighborhood but where you live has little to do with anything. Guy I know was outside with his dogs a month or two ago in his fenced in back yard in a neighborhood full of $2-3mm homes.
Two dudes jumped the fence beat the hell out of him and had him, his wife, and their 13yr old daughter held at gun point while they robbed them.
go frick yourself you self righteous piece of shite.
