I'm sure they have some good soul food and BBQ restaurants, but (and I could be wrong) I'm not sure you're getting street tacos, Thai, sushi, Vietnamese, Spanish style tapas and paella in Jackson, Mississippi...

Everyone should concede that New Orleans is the best.

I'd try to rank it as...

Tier One:
New Orleans - that's the only I can definitively put above the rest. I'm okay with that.

Tier Two:
Charleston and Atlanta

Tier Three:
Asheville, Savannah, Birmingham, Nashville, Memphis

Nashville's food scene definitely sucks. Nashville is nothing but a bunch of hipster eclectic wannabee farm to table BS. Memphis has a way better food scene and should have been in the top 10.

Nashvilles food scene is very diverse....been there several times in the last decade and i've really enjoyed the choices around Vanderbilt and Belmont.....the Hot Chicken was meh,Good Pizza places at 5 points, but great food city none the less.

Outside of bbq and "soul food," which Memphis does very well, the city is otherwise pretty weak top to bottom for a city of its size. It doesn't help that downtown Memphis was a ghost town for so long. There really aren't many notable restaurants doing creative things, and the ethnic food scene is non existent.

Houston has a legit food scene, but Texas = not the south

So are San Antone and Austin no longer in TX? They're on the list.

That Houston wasn't even in the top-ten discredits the whole list.

As someone who travels from New Orleans to Jackson to Savannah, and has done so for 15 years, I'm going to have to get a list of some of these great Jackson eating establishments

There's literally too many restaurants to list. If you really want to know, try doing a Google search. Just type in what kind of food you're looking for, location, and voila.

Actually Jackson has had all of those things for a long as I can remember. They've also had several of those you mentioned for as long as anyone else in the south.

history might not paint Texas as Southern place, its definitely more Southern than Florida and Houston has the best Korean food i've ever had.

A decade ago Memphis was only bbq and soul food, but it is a foodie town now. Restaurant Iris, Catherine & Mary’s, The Majestic Grille, Tsunami, Sweet Grass, the Beauty Shop, Bar DKDC, Bari, Hog and Hominy, Erling Jensen’s, Interim, Felicia Suzanne's, Flight, Itta Bena, Andrew Michael, GUS'S, etc...

I still think of Nashville as hot chicken, really good steak houses, or hipster, but have honestly had lots of great meals there.
