How is this the first scale model? There has never been a scale model made of the solar system? Even on a really small scale?

i think how meticulously they measured each planet & sun so they could have the actual dimensions as seen when they held up the balloon and the sun was next to it and they were identical.
you have to go at least this big to get a decent model.

He said in the video that there isnt an image to scale. Which is kinda misleading because there are websites that display the universe to scale but they arent in the format of an image.

They mentioned in the video you would need a microscope to see the planets if you drew the solar system to scale on a piece of paper. They had to use a marble for earth in a 7 mile area to get this to an accurately measured scale.

This.
There are no 3D models to scale until this because the planets would be too small unless you took up miles and miles of area.

Would have been a lot better with an overhead drone shot when they were doing the lights to represent orbits
