What qualifies as "things to do" for you? Because I've been talking about things to do the entire time

no you haven't. you've brought up traffic, the economy, infrastructure, public transit, and proximity to san antonio.

Next you can tell me how similar San Francisco and Hammond are.

that you think br vs atx & hammond vs sf are similar debates. austin people are so delusional.

I grew up in the BR area but my sister lives in Austin. Austin is a far nicer city than BR and has a far better economy. This is primarily due to the statewide Republican leadership in Texas that's very pro business, even though the local government in Austin is damn near communist. That being said, Austin isn't for everyone. There are several other cities in the South that I'd rather live in. BR not being one.

ETA - and Austin has far less cultcha. That's another reason it's nicer.

This is one of the most moronic stances I've seen on here........ever.

I've lived in California, NM, Houston, BR, Nola, Colorado and now Pittsburgh. If you don't mind getting out of the south, Colorado and Pittsburgh are great. Being in the banking industry, PNC bank is huge around pittsburgh. The tech and o&g industries are pumping large amounts of money into the area. You'll get all four seasons. The city is growing and is a nice place to raise a family. It is by far the best place I've lived. I would highly recommend looking at it.

You mind listing a few? What is different about those cities compared to BR?

I think the farthest north Mrs Jennings wants to go is Birmingham.

All seem pretty important to the OPs inquiry. And transit and proximity to other cities go hand in hand with things to do. Those are key aspects of a city being able to function and allow you do "do things" although I'm still not sure what qualifies as something to do for you. You've been quite vague about that

Its certainly exaggeration, but the point stands. They are on different wavelengths but you just disqualify everything to make your argument work.

And I'm born and raised in BR

It really is subjective. I'm not really a big city guy so that probably skews my list a little. Some people on here love Houston but that would be a living hell to me if I didn't live way out of the city in the suburbs. I'd live in any of the cities below over Austin. Austin is also extremely expensive.

Asheville, NC
Fayetteville, AR
Huntsville, AL
Chattanooga, TN
Knoxville, TN
Fort Worth, TX (on the larger side for me but I always enjoyed the people there)

personally I would live anywhere in Ark, La, Ms, Al, Ga, Tn, Nc, Sc with favorable demographics before Austin. but I am from San Antonio and hate most of Texas due to it being in its own world compared to the proximity the other Southern states have to each other.

But isn't that what makes Texas better?

I should have known this thread would turn into a "shite on Texas" debate. Sometimes the OT is too predictable.

I like Texas. I'd prefer Tennessee just for the hills, seasons and smaller cities but Texas is one of the best run states in the country.

I like living across the bay from Mobile in Daphne. Daphne, Fairhope, Spanish Fort all offer nice coastal living with good schools and people. Baldwin County as a whole is nice. It's got a variety of people from all over the south. I like that it takes 2 hours to get to New Orleans, 3 hours to get to BR, 2 hours to Destin, 45 minutes to Gulf Shores, 50 minutes to Pensacola, 2-1/2 hours to Montgomery and 4-5 hours to Atlanta. I feel like I can get anywhere quick which is nice for my job and it's awesome when you want to load up the family to get away for the weekend.

I've lived in Little Rock and it was okay but damn the place has some white trash.

Colorado Springs was fun but I grew tired of the snow. You really don't realize how much you miss Sourhern Culture until you are away from it.

Destin was cool but 3 months of tourist drove me nuts.

Hasn't the city of Pittsburgh been basically bankrupt for the last 10 years? State had to come in and run it because locals couldn't figure it out.

Anyone ever seen Greenville, SC? That town is awesome and booming. Unemployment rate is like 2.5%. Close to the Mountains, beautiful scenery. I was very impressed.
