Birmingham is a shite hole with some really nice suburbs. It has about as much cultcha as NOLA and is consistently in the top 10 most violent cities in America.

Austin is basically BR plus the green belt as far as "things to do" goes
Posted on 6/18/17 at 11:22 am to GreatLakesTiger24
Those two cities aren't even comparable. BR is a wasteland.
Posted on 6/18/17 at 11:29 am to wildtigercat93
What exactly does Austin "have to to" that BR doesn't? Mount bonnel
? More food trucks?
It's still in the middle of Texas.

Lakes, rivers, more food options, more drink options, more music options, SXSW, hiking/biking trails, comedy clubs, better movie theaters, and surrounded by another metro area in San Antonio.

I'm not saying it's the Mecca of the universe or anything, but it makes BR look like a third world country
Posted on 6/18/17 at 11:45 am to wildtigercat93
why even compare it to Baton Rouge? everyone that doesnt live in Baton Rouge knows its shitty.

Those may not be as high on some people's list on where to raise a family.

he is giving reasons Austin is fun

I didn't compare it to BR, he did

That's true, but the original post suggested moving in the outside areas of Austin, so you could have the best of both worlds in a growing area. Then someone said there's nothing to do out there which is a wild statement to me. There's clearly things to do out there especially for someone used to living in th 225
Posted on 6/18/17 at 11:53 am to wildtigercat93
pretty much all of those things revolve around the greenbelt, unless you're talking about places outside city limits. in that case, BR has the basin and it's pretty close to the gulf. i guess you have me on food trucks, comedy clubs, and better movie theaters.
i'm not trying to defend BR, but Austin is barely any better.

Why are we disqualifying the green belt? That seems like a huge bonus of living in that city. Austin is a booming tech city that can sustain businesses that aren't chain restaurants and has a better public transit and traffic situation (not great, but better) despite being a much denser population
Your statement of Austin not being barely better than BR is just ludicrous. They exists on two different planets

eta: places like boulder would be be ridiclous to compare to BR. austin? not so much.

Idk what your obsession with food trucks is. I haven't mentioned them one time.
So besides having better scenery, better restraunts, more jobs, more events, and more things to do, and better infrastructure, they are basically the same thing. I guess I would have to agree with that
Next you can tell me how similar San Francisco and Hammond are.

Everyone recommending Tennessee are dead wrong. It is horrible. Tons of crime, ugly as hell, terrible economy, nothing to do, horrendous roads, high taxes.
Whatever you do, don't make the mistake of moving to Tennessee.

i'm only talking about "things to do". austin barely beats br in that department.
