I live in Frisco and commute to Dallas for work. The commute is not that bad an hour at the most not unlike any other large metro area.

We lived in the Seattle suburbs for 4 years and lived it. Beautiful and a great place to raise a family. It's just too damn fat to travel when going back to the southeast to see family.

Going to Texas State must be an awesome time

I guess if you want your college life to revolve around floating in a tub in a river while drunk...

I know you're trying to be condescending, but that actually sounds pretty nice....

Do you have money?

I mean, every region has great places to live if you can be upper middle class.

Nashville is booming. NYC is a cultural mecca. Phoenix is actually having a surge. Denver is a hot spot.

Besides good schools and family friendly areas, what else do you want?

Like others have said, look into Fort Worth. I know what you mean. Dallas is hectic. The wife and I moved to Fort Worth a few years ago, from Alabama, and we love it. Cost of living is significantly cheaper than Dallas, and it's way more laid back.

Fort Worth is the answer if you want to be an hour of Dallas.

sure, it is fun, I am going tubing in that river today possibly, but if you want to go to college for the outdoor experience, and you pick Texas State, dear Lord...

now if you are a Texas resident who wants to save money for college it isnt a bad choice, but otherwise...

Raleigh is awesome - good quality of life, growing city, and cost of living is decent.

Tampa is definitely in the rise. Downtown is going through a major renovation. Economy is booming and diverse. 3 major sports teams. South Tampa area is very charming. Weather is fantastic.

Downside is cost of living. Traffic can be bad outside if South Tampa area.

Agree with most of that, saint Pete is the best part of Tampa in my opinion. All of North Carolina is great. And everywhere in Tennessee is the tits except Nashville, frick that shite hole.

I'm moving as well op, and hoping to find a place similar to what you want.

I've been looking for somewhere around TN/NC/AL/GA, seems like one of the best geographical locations in the South for hunting, fishing, boating, mountains, beaches, sports, etc.

I think I'm gonna try Chattanooga, Birmingham, Huntsville, Asheville (even though its hipster as frick its right by the mountains), or somewhere in Georgia.

It's a little slice of heaven on Earth to raise a family.

If you are single, it will suck.

I wanted to move to Tampa after graduating, but Texas made an offer I couldn't refuse. Maybe in a few years.

Charlotte--airport hub, 2 hours to mountains, 3 hours to beach, good public schools if you live in a good neighborhood, whitewater center, pro football/basketball, Nice minor league baseball stadium downtown.
