Our first was born in Atlanta, and came a month early. At the time, my mom was in Panama City visiting relatives. My dad was in Auburn. When I called my mom to tell her that her first grandchild would be here by morning, She called my dad and told him that if he wanted to see his grandchild, he'd better be packed and standing by the road in front of the house when she got to Auburn. My MiL got on a plane that night and was there the next morning too.

I was glad to have them.

We were at hospital in the waiting room for all three of my grands…2 from daughter and 1 from daughter in law. The other set of grandparents were there as well. Never went back to delivery room. Well, my wife may have once or twice at my daughters request now that I think about it but never without invite or for very long. Once babies were born and we were allowed, we went back and saw the babies for about 5 minutes and then left so they could rest. Once babies were home, we didn’t go see them for a couple days and not until after he kids told us they were ready. With my daughter first kid it was the next morning cause she was freaking out as a new mom and wanted her mom there for support.

No one in the delivery room, or no one at the hospital?

Hospital. We had zero visitors by choice. Brought people in when we went home.

Why does the mom only get a say and not the father?
cuz it's her fricking vagina on display, the one in pain, and the one doing all the damn work. If she wants no one in the room, then no one is gonna be in there. Sorry grandma, your son's wife comes first now.

Whatever you do for the first, you better do for all to follow. Kids will talk and people are petty.

My first grandchild was born it was in another city.
However, when my wife was pregnant for our first born, when she went into Labor, I drove her to the hospital at about 3:AM. The delivery Nurse was a former class mate of my wife in Nursing School. She told me to gp back home and when the birthing time arrived, she would call me. I did. At about 6 AM I received her call. l dressed and drove the five miles to the hospital. When I walked into the waiting room the Nurse was bringing out the "Little Miracle" from the delivery room.
