You seem really worked up about this. Sorry you were abused. That doesn't make all corporal punishment inappropriate. Physical pain and violence are a part of life. All violence is not wrong - sometimes it is justified and appropriate. We are turning into a nation of pussies because of this pansy attitude.
One example of when a smack worked well (and some background). I once saw a lady with an unruly child in a public place. The child spit in her face repeatedly as she tried to talk him into better behavior. I promised myself I would never let my child do that to me.
Fast forward a few years. Each of my children spit in my face when they were young... ONCE. They both got smacked in the chops for it. No bleeding, no bruising, but also, no more spitting.

In Scotsboro AL, if multiple eyewitnesses say it was excessive, it probably was more than the kids deserved. That isn't the capital of being politically correct/bleeding hearts
