I'm not sure how the statutes read, but apparently domestic violence isn't as big a deal as child abuse. In other words, the threshold for child abuse hadn't been met, but it was domestic violence.

I'd like to find out more about the difference in Alabama though.

If multiple people in rural arse Alabama think it was excessive, I am leaning to this being more than just discipline

Spanking is for lazy Neanderthals.

This is why we can't have nice things.

There are situations where it is appropriate. A pretty good rule of thumb is that if the spanking/discipline is such that people in the McDonald's in a rural town in Alabama will confront you and then call the police, you've gone too far.

A decent DA would dismiss the charge but few are decent.

How the hell do you know this? The old guy could have been beating this shite out of the kids.

If you change the title to old man faces charges for abusing dogs at McDonalds, this thread would be all about locking the man up for life. Humans love a good child beating I guess

Yanking the hair, or slap to the back of the head or face works great.

That's your opinion. And just because someone else has a different opinion than yours does not make them a Neanderthal.

To each his own.

ETA: I wish there was a way to validate whether or not a poster is/was a parent, particularly for this type of thread. Some of you seem to be in fantasy world where any physical discipline is barbaric and others think that anything less than a punch is acceptable.
