A 100-foot crack at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming have prompted officials to close certain areas to tourists.
Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point are now closed to tourists due to a possible safety hazard and park rangers are initiating a risk assessment, according to a statement from the National Park Service.
Superintendent David Vela said, “Human safety is our number one priority, and with an abundance of caution we are temporarily closing this area until we can properly assess the situation.”

Grand Teton National Park sits near the Yellowstone supervolcano, which last erupted 630,000 years ago and ejected 240 cubic miles of rock, ash and volcanic dust into the sky and left a 34 mile by 50 mile depression in the ground.
quote:
If there was an eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano, which government officials and scientists have said is unlikely, the result would be a devastating amount of ash and sulfur spewed into the air. That in turn could destroy crops and even alter the climate.

Scientists say it’s unlikely we’re about to have an eruption at Yellowstone. But when it does finally go, man that’s gonna suck.

I was just up there last week. I probably caused the fissure.

I tried including that in the title but it wouldn’t fit.

I was there four years ago, that could have happened to me.

Not sure about hidden falls and I didn't read the article linked but Inspiration point is in Yellowstone so the OP is poorly worded or incorrect.
Eta: I should know but I forgot there is one at Jenny Lake in GTNP too. The article should just say Jenny Lake has portions closed as most would know that better.

I've always heard Yellowstone is a hugemonguous volcanic area and if they whole thing blows, it could be an ELE.

If Yellowstone were to erupt, it would make Krakatoa look like a middle school baking soda and peroxide science experiment. And Krakatoa was a big deal. It was so loud, the eruption was heard from more than 3,000 miles away. That's like being in California, and hearing a noise that originated in New York.

Buried way down deep among the supervolcano hyperbole is this lonely little paragraph

The crack in the rock face is a common rockfall-related hazard, according to a source at the U.S. Geological Survey.

While this is not a sign of a supervolcano eruption and we are not going to see it erupt in our lifetimes, when it does eventually happen, it will be hard to exaggerate the impact.
fricker will devastate our continent and have major global effects.
Talking food shortages from crops dying, water contamination, transportation shut down, sweeping blackouts, etc.
It will frick some shite up.

Big titties and massive fissures. This is a thread with potential.

The Earth won't be the only planet inhabited by humans when that finally happens. At the very least, we'll have conquered the solar system, and will inhabit Mars, our moon, and other planets moons. Either that, or we'll be extinct.
