Pretty awesome. I never heard of it. Thanks for the link

Before the Last Island Hurricane, Isle Dernière (Last Island) was a popular resort where people could enjoy white sand beaches and clearer water, which are not found on the marshy mainland. Last Island was also known for an almost continuous breeze, which would have been welcomed by those escaping the suffocating heat of the mainland

Looks like a newer camp
Built to newer codes

14 ft high
Piles in slab at grade
And prolly a metal roof structure
With mega hurricane straps on joists
And rafters

I don't understand why people pay for a home or camp down there. That place gets blasted regularly.

In August 1992, Hurricane Andrew passed by Grand Isle and eroded about 250,000 cubic yards of fill from the project. After HurricaneAndrew, it was believed that a carefully designed system of breakwaters could reduce the erosion rate back to the original 100,000 cubic yard per year computed during project design.

Grand isle is nicer now after Andrew.

I spoke with Coon a couple times last weekend. He wasn’t setting the world on fire by no means, but I figured he was going to be able to put one on the board for sure.

The jetties seem to be working but I’m sure there is a study saying different. The part of the beach without them got ate up by Barry.

Yes it did. But the area in front of bridgeside always takes it on the chin for some reason. The spot in corner by pass is peeled back to the burrito. Not sure why they haven’t put some breakwaters just offshore in that area.

Well, you have to replenish or of course erosion will run it’s course.

I stumbled on it somewhere. Would be awesome if it was still there . Clear water, awesome breeze , and all just a boat ride away

Umm that picture isn’t from Galveston. That’s Bolivar.

Galveston has been raised over the years and its Seawall protected to from the worse of the storm.

Bolivar is lower and doesn’t have a Seawall

Here is a book about Last Island. I gave a copy to my Dad. He said it was a good read.
We are related to some of the people written about in the book.LINK
