This is such a bad idea, it makes sense the govt will endorse it. It won't help at all until every car on the road is driverless, which will be what 100 years?

Outside of the speed trap towns, speeding tickets make up for a very small percentage of law enforcement revenue

Surely....SURELY....Americans on average are smart enough to not let the states pass laws that require people to carry personal insurance on driverless cars.

Americans are addicted to speeding. Having cars that don't allow you to travel over the speed limit will not make many Americans angry.

Really though, it's not just the traffic tickets; with less demand for them there will be less justification for their employment; same for the judges, attorneys, administrators, and all of the various associated systems... systems and people that all make money/provide employment for somebody.
And when was the last time you saw a government official or entity tell the public that they don't need as much budget next year?

It'll be interesting to see how they slowly integrate driverless vehicles onto the roads. There are so many unpredictable drivers, I question how a computer will respond to the person eating a hotdog and playing Pokemon Go at the same time who suddenly changes lanes without signaling to catch a pikachu.

I've seen computers get temporarily "stuck" opening a program or responding to a command. This is basically the same tech.
At some point the processor will stall in the wrong place and do something like fail to react to a stop sign. First at fault accident and the narrative will be the technology, even though the accident rate is still lower than human drivers.

I'm assuming he knows the companies behind the technology & development are big Dems, have given money to Dems, and are financed by democrats.
